John Pantsil suffers heavy defeat in Uefa Europa League

John Pantsil (R) fights for the ball with Athletico Madrid's Rodriguez on Thursday night

By Patrick Akoto

John Pantsil played full throttle for Hapoel Tel Aviv in their 3-0 defeat at home to Athletico Madrid in the Uefa Europa League on Thursday night.

The 30-year-old impressed heavily at the right back for the Israeli side but their defensive network could not contain the onslaught from the Uefa Super Cup winners.

Playing without their star striker Falcao, the Spanish outfit were ruthless and had few problems negotiating the fixture against their opponent at their own backyard.

Rodriguez’s superb strike from outside the penalty area gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 37th minutes before Lopez rounded goalkeeper Edel Apoula to tap into the empty net for the second goal three minutes later.

Raul Garcia put the icing on the cake as he scored with a clinical right-foot finish to kill of the game in Israel.

Pantsil thwarted the effort of the attacking machinery of the Uefa Europa League winners with some solid defensive display and got booked  on the 88th minutes mark.

Sorry Painstil, even Chelsea were disciplined by this Athletico Madrid. You did what you got to do.

Athletic Madrid is a solid team that should have played the Uefa champions league.I wonder if any team can stop them at the Europa league.
