John Pantsil: Black magic allegation has tarnished our image

Ghana defender John Pantsil says allegations of using black magic at the 2012 Nations Cup have tarnished the image of the national team.

Serbian trainer Goran Stevanovic- who led the team at the tournament- cited in his leaked technical report that his players accused each other of using voodoo to destroy themselves.

But the out-of-favour Leicester City right-back has denied anything of such sort happened in camp.

”The ‘Juju’ allegation has really disgraced and painted us black. It was all over the foreign media,” the 30-year-old local radio station Happy FM.

”I can vouch for my colleagues that nothing of that sort happened in camp, we don’t practice ‘juju’.

“If ‘juju’ really works, we would have been supermen because it is believed that juju exists in Africa.

Pantsil-who has played in four Nations Cup finals-also added that they were destined not to win the tournament hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

”We don’t fight in camp as it is perceived by many. We got to the semi final because that was where God wanted us to get to.

”We were more than disappointed. We have learnt our lessons well, and will finish the unfinished business in future competitions.”

Pantsil is expected to be invited for the 2014 FIFA World Cup double-header qualifiers against Lesotho and Zambia in June.

I THINK UNTIL PANTSIL STARTS PLAYING WEEK IN WEEK OUT,HE SHOULD NOT BE INVITED.THIS SHOULD GO FOR ALL THE OTHER BIG TIME BENCH WARMERS.

Enough ofu painstil, try to score a goal at least before u retire. mensah, vorsah, olele and inkoom even has all scored

  3. Chu says:

And ifu don’t know, we r seeing a new vitalised blackstars void of tired veterans but one to ran down opnts irrespective

  4. Fiifi, Berlin says:

If the Black Stars were not destined to win the AFCON, then why was Plavi sacked and that hugh compensation and pay given him?? Plavi does not speak any of the Ghanaian languages so who told him of this conflict in camp! The GFA management committee which accompanied the team has not even come out to catagorically deny the allegations! In any case, as the saying goes; ” the monkey says , he is not angry with the hunter who shot him , but rather the one who paraded his cadavar around town ,proclaiming loudly that the monkey has been shot dead!”. The person who leaked the report is the culprit, he is the one who has painted the team black! He must be dealt with drastically!!

  7. kwame-Blazefame says:

If it is all on the news as u are saying, is not the same thing u are doing here on GSN? If u believe it is not true then a wise man will not even bother themselves saying anything about the story. And the last thing, u are experience player but its time for u to sit on the bench or make way for other young players becuz u dont even play at the club level in the championship so why play for Blackstars?

  8. Rastaman says:

    John,
There was nothing wrong with that. You have been in Africa football for a while, and why should this be a problem to you. We used to hear when we were kids that games used to be played in a calabash, controlled by a Mallam. When were you born?
What about what Zambia did in Gabon. They went to the beach and spread flowers into the beach to be carried away. Why did they do that? For who? They believed in the spirit of the dead. Is that not Black Magic?

  9. Rastaman says:

I meant spread flowers into the Ocean. Sorry for the error!

  10. Fresher says:

John Paintsil may have been good for Ghana when he was with the national Under 20s, but now, he is largely irrelevant to the national team, so are his denial of black magic allegations, after all Ghanaians are not naive of how he dements his young competitors with JUJU. He has no business in the Black-stars whatsoever, he is past his sale-by-date, he has never made even a single individual contribution toward any meaningful victory since his first CAP for Ghana over TEN years ago. Now is the time for him to get out of the way for those young BOYS to come and DO-THE-JOB properly.

  11. nana kwesi peprah says:

so who is john blaming the coach or themselves

  12. bawah says:

Countries like Cote d’Ivoir use JUJU openly -fiilifili- most of the time to freighten Ghanaians but sometimes the JUJU fails.Their intention is to win.Zambians went to the Cemetary to plead with the spirits of dead players before travelling to Gabon: So they played 22 against 11; that what my junior brother told me.THE PAST IS THE PAST.Let’s look towards the Future.GOD BLESS THE BLACK STARS!
