John Boye stars as nine-man Rennes shock PSG

Posted On Saturday, 17th November 2012

John Boye celebrating Stade Rennes victory with team-mates

Ghana defender John Boye was a pillar in defence for nine-man Stade Rennes who defied the odds to beat Paris Saint Germain 2-1 at their own backyard in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday.

The Black Stars center-half marshalled the backline exhibiting commanding abilities in aerial challenges and won the battle against a razor-blade PSG attack led by Ezequiel Lavezzi and Javier Pastore.

Goalkeeper Benoit Costil and midfielder Jean Makoun were sent off in either halves.

Romain Alessandrini steered Rennes ahead in the 13th minute but Brazilian Nene cancelled out the lead for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Julien Féret restored the lead for Rennes with an inch-perfect free-kick.

Boye has been impressive for Rennes, making 12 appearances so far.

boye no nonsense defender.currently our best defender so far.
i knew he will make an impact.if he continues like this the big clubs will be coming out for him.

  2. Dr Who says:

Boye keeps improving match after match and that will blossom his career.

  3. Maxwell Johnson says:

I couldn’t agree with you any more bro Keith, Boye is by far our best CB currently. I watch the game, he was excellent!! Marshaling forces in defense very well. The likes of Javier Pastore, Ezequiel Lavezzi and subtitute Kevin Gameiro were all kept at bay. Another good performance in next yr’s AFCON could see his stock rise and the big clubs will come knocking, I want to see him play in the EPL or La Liga.

  4. Emmanuel from nima, Ghana says:

I knew he could make it the first time i watched in a qualifier against Gabon where he excelled.wish him all the best in the season and hopes that he brings that spirited performance to the black stars.
