Renowned Ivorian journalist Mamadou Gaye says no African side including Ghana will make it past the group stage at the 2014 World Cup.

The Black Stars, Africa’s brightest team at the last World Cup in South Africa are drawn in an acclaimed group of death at this year’s finals in Brazil.

Ghana will open its third successive campaign at the World Cup against USA before taking on three-time winners Germany and then Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal in Group G.

While officials of the Ghana FA are confident of the team’s chances at the World Cup in Brazil, Gaye – a frequent critique of the Black Stars – says Ghana and the four other African teams at this year’s finals will be lucky to make it past the group stages.

“Honestly speaking, this World Cup will be a nightmare for African teams,” he told Accra-based Power FM.

“If you look at the Group of Ghana with Portugal, Germany and USA, I think it’s going to be extremely difficult.

“The Germans are highly professional and very organized. We can see Portugal with Ronaldo highly fired up left and right.

“Ghana was the flag bearer for Africa at the last World Cup but believe me, I am afraid to say that it will not go well for Ghana.”

Gaye is famous for damning the chances of the Black Stars at major tournaments.

He has however been on several occasions proven wrong by the gallant Black Stars team led by former Ghana captain Kwesi Appiah.

The Ivorian journalist during his time with SuperSport infamously predicted Ghana’s exit at the group stage of the past two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

His damning predictions only succeeded in motivating the Black Stars players to excel – much to the shame and disappointment of the ardent Ivory Coast supporter.
