Italy have stepped up their attempt to dissuade AC Milan striker Kingsley Boateng from playing for Ghana by calling him up for an Under 20 tournament.
The 19-year-old, who is part of Ghana future plans, is in Italy’s Under-20 squad for a four-nation tournament.
Boateng met high-ranking members of the Ghanaian community in Italy at the request of Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyatakyi last year where he expressed interest in playing for the country of his parents.
The striker has hit blistering form for AC Milan in their pre-season matches which has resulted in Italy going for him once again for their junior team
The team was called up by Coach Alberigo Evani and the Azzurri open their campaign against Switzerland on September 6.
Italy-based Ghanaian John Tsagli has asked by president Kwesi Nyantakyi to help the federation in luring the striking prodigy who scored in his debut for the Italy U19s two years ago.
Boateng is seen as one of the talented players who could end Ghana’s striking problems.
Tsagli held several preliminary but unofficial talks with the player and says the feedback is positive.
“I asked him if he is interested in playing the Black Stars and he said yes even though he is playing for Italy’s Under-19 side,” Tsagli told GHANAsoccernet.com
“For now he’s hoping for a call from the GFA for national duty as a Ghanaian because his heart feels like wearing the national jersey for his motherland Ghana.”
Boateng, 19, was invited to the Italy Under-19 team in 2011 and scored in a friendly against Montenegro in a friendly.
However, he is still eligible to play for Ghana as he has not played in an official game for the Italy national team.
Boateng was born in Mpatuam, Ghana but went to Italy at an early age of 4.
He has deep connections with his roots unlike Bolotelli and recently praised Samuel Eto’o’s commitment to his African roots.
