Marco Tardelli

Italian Marco Tardelli is the leading contender to replace axed Kwesi Appiah as Black Stars coach, according to reports in the Ghanaian media.

Tardelli, 60, is among five coaches who have been short-listed for the job, according to the Ghanaian media.

The Italian legend, who currently manages English championship side Watford, is the hotly tipped for the job due to his rich CV.

The Ghana FA is looking for replacement for Kwesi Appiah, who was sacked two weeks ago despite leading the side to bag four points from six games in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The former Juventus star has jumped ahead of other competitors including ex-coach Milovan Rajevac who was hugely tipped to stage a comeback into the team.

Other names to have been bandied about are Dutchman Patrick Kluivert, former Chelsea coach Avram Grant, former Switzerland assistant coach Michel Pont as well as former Valladolid coach Juan Ignacio Martinez.

The Ghana FA is expected to name a new coach by the close of the month to supervise the remaining matches in the qualifying campaign for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
