Former Wa All Stars head coach Nurudeen Ahmed has been appointed Ghana U17 assistant coach, replacing Isaac Opeele Boateng.

Opeele, former Asante Kotoko coach, was a victim of a shake-up after a disappointing campaign at the 2013 African Junior Championship in Morocco.

The Black Satellites failed to live up to expectations after failing to progress from the Group stage.

Ghana U17 management committee vice president Winfred Osei has defended the decision to sack Boateng.

“It is not about personnel. It’s just what is best for the team,” Osei told GHANASoccernet.com.

“Whether I am there or not or Opeele is there or not the most important thing is that the team does well.

“The interest of the team is paramount and we are all channeling efforts towards getting the best out of the team.”
