The Chievo Verona youngster was a surprised inclusion in a 24-man squad released by head coach Kwesi Appiah on Tuesday night ahead of next month’s double header against Malawi and Liberia.
The 20-year-old joined the Italian top flight side on a four-year dear this term after a terrific season on loan at Seria B side Sassuolo where he featured 36 times and score a goal.
The former Piacenza and Torin enforcer is thrilled with his shock call-up into the national team for next month’s double header and anxious to make an instant impact.
“I shouldn’t say they should expect anything from me. But I will put myself at the disposition of the team,” Cofie told Radio XYZ
“If the team wins, we all win and so personally the group comes first and I am ready to work hard and do my best for my country,”
“I played almost every game for Sassuoulo and so I believe the coach monitored my progress. I have worked with Kwesi Appiah before with the Black Meteors and he knows what I am made up of,”
“I am ready to learn from the experienced players around me.”
Cofie must fight for a place in a star-studded midfield which comprises of experienced old hands Anthony Annan, Derek Boateng, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu Kwadwo Asamoah and Andre Ayew with highly-rated Christian Atsu and Solomon Asante also in the frame.
The African giants will play the Flames in Accra on September 8 before travelling to Monrovia three days later to play Liberia in an international friendly.
