Iranian side Damash Gilan could rescue Appiah

Iranian side Damash Gilan are reported to be interested in signing ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah.

The official website of the Iranian League reported last week the Rasht-based side want to sign him after rivals Persepolis FC could not tie him down.

Appiah, 31, trained with Persepolis but the club's coach Manuel Jose rejected him despite impressing.

Reports in Iran claimed the former Juventus player was turned down because of health reasons.

But Appiah, who was invited by the club president, vehemently denied that and accused Jose of trying to bring in his own players.

Appiah has been without a club since ending a four-month loan spell at Serbian side FK Vojvodina.
