Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has refused to confirm his interest in taking Emmanuel Frimpong on loan but has also refused to dismiss a possible move for the Ghana midfielder.

Frimpong, 21, has not played a game for Arsenal this season despite staying fit for most parts of the season so far.

The Ghana midfielder is desperate for first team action with the World Cup drawing closer as he eyes a place in the Black Stars squad for the trip to Brazil.

But Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has refused to give Frimpong the badly needed game time at the Emirates – hinting he could be once more again farmed out on loan.

Reports have emerged the tough-tackling midfielder could be on his way to Ipswich to link up with Mick McCarthy who took him on loan in 2012 during his time at Wolves.

But the Blues boss has been reluctant to give anything away in giving his clearest indication of interest for the Ghana international.

“I wouldn’t tell you if he was because that wouldn’t be fair,” he said when pressed on the issue of Frimpong.

“An agent has obviously put something out, but you can take all that with a pinch of salt unless you’ve heard that from me.”

Ipswich will be looking to re-enforce in January with the club set to lose Ryan Tunnicliffe who is likely to be recalled from his loan spell by Manchester United.
