I'm Ready To Fight Corruption

Posted On Saturday, 12th May 2012

The Convention People?s Party presidential aspirant, Mr Bright Akwetey, has assured Ghanaians of his readiness to fight corruption and indiscipline if elected as the flag-bearer for the party and ultimately win the presidential elections.

?I am ready to serve and lead Ghanaians. I have fought corruption, injustices, crimes and will not stop. No matter who you are. Whether a party member or not if you offend the law, I will deal with you according to the laws of the land,? he stated.

Addressing the Greater Accra regional delegate at Osu presbyterian hall in Accra on Tuesday, Mr Akwetey said since the National Democratic Congress and New Patriotic Party took the leadership position in the country over the past 20 years, Ghana had been hit by a massive corruption and indiscipline, particularly among the parliamentarians.?

The launch attracted leading members of the party including the Chairman, Ms Samia Yaaba Nkrumah, and two vice-Chairpersons, Mrs Rodaline Ayarna and Mr Oteng Anane.

Others were the General Secretary, Ivor Greenstreet, the communication director, Nii Armah Akomfrah, and a member of the Council of Elders, Mrs Janet Boadi.

M Akwetey said it was the selfish attitude exhibited by the leadership of the two parties that had caused the economy to experience what he described as ?slow pace of growth,? stressing ?I have toured all the 10 regions in the country and it would surprise you to know that Ghanaians are tired of the NPP and
NDC.

They have realised that those two parties lack the qualities of good leadership with their personal attacks and verbal abuses. No tribalism and hateful speeches will be tolerated under the leadership of the CPP,? he said.

Mr Akwetey, who was dressed in party colours, promised to offer credible leadership to secure victory for the CPP if granted the chance to become the party?s flag-bearer.

In his statement to the delegates, he charged them to adhere strictly to the codes and conducts of the party constitution, always bearing in mind that their loyalty was to the party and not the individuals, adding ?the party is supreme.?

?Let us focus on building the unity and relationship as Ghanaians. Our allegiance is not to CPP, NPP, NDC but to the national interest of the country?s growth and development.? he said

According to Mr Akwetey, creation of jobs, provision of shelter for the poor and protection of the vulnerable were key to improving the standard of living of the Ghanaian citizen.

He, however, promised to work closely with the leadership of the party at all levels as a means of inspiring confidence in the Ghanaian voter to believe in the CPP as the most attractive alternative to the NDC and the NPP.

A leading member of CPP, Mr Agyemang Badu Akosa, said Ghanaians would continue to be in misery and poverty if the citizens continued to vote for the NDC and NPP.

According to him, the two parties were not interested in serving the nations but rather interested in their families and personal gains, stressing ?CPP is a generous party and we believe seeking the welfare of the people is the key to serving them.?

Mr Akosa, who was also the chairman of at the occasion, endorsed Mr Akwetey, describing him as a principled and stable leader whose interest was serving his country.

He described CPP as a sleeping giant who would restore the hopes and confidence of the people if given the chance in the 2012 general elections.
