I Have Already Planned To Quit? CHRAJ Boss

Posted On Monday, 7th May 2012

The Commissioner for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Ms. Lauretta Vivian Lamptey, said she will resign her role as a Board member for GCB (Ghana Commercial Bank), but won?t allow the legal advocacy group to file a suit against her at the Supreme Court to set the pace for her resignation.

She added that she already wanted to quit GCB (Ghana Commercial Bank) as a board member in March, and not because the advocacy group criticized her dual role as a CHRAJ boss and also as a member of the GCB board, and that she violates the constitution as a public office holder.

Meanwhile Madam Lamptey still insists she hasn?t done any wrong in occupying the two roles as an office holder.

Speaking on Accra based radio, Joy fm, Ms. Lamptey made it clear that her resignation from the GCB board has nothing to do with the violation of the constitution as claimed by the advocacy group, and that it was a decision she took in December, and communicated to her colleague directorates, and was based on time constraints and responsibilities at CHRAJ.

?This was something I saw very quickly into my term of office, it?s been two Months of having started the job, it was clear to me that I would not be able to be committed as a board member, as am supposed to be, I actually was going to resign much earlier?.

The CHRAJ boss opined that the writ that have been filed by the Center for National Affairs (CNA) at the Supreme Court for violating article 222 of the 1992 constitution was not a problem for her since she is not going to do anything about the issue, and that its entirely up to them to go forward with it.

?The Simple thing is that when you take a case to court you have to actually show the law that, you have to make a case, I am saying that when someone tries to make a case that holding a board suit constitute public office, no one is going to have a problem with it?.
