How the Stars fared against Sudan

The Black Stars gorged on Sudan in style and moved a point within Group D leaders Zambia who drew at Lesotho.

Spartak Moscow striker Abdul Majeed Waris was on the score-sheet while Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong marked his Ghana debut in a thrilling display.

Ghanasoccernet.com rates the performance of the Black Stars.

Fatau Dauda - 6

This was not one of the games that the AshGold shot-stopper needed to put on any of his stunning performance in South Africa. Didn’t have to do much defensively. His biggest threat on the evening was a free-kick that flew into orbit from 25 yards out.

Harrison Afful - 7.5

Worked hard, as always, though he got forward on just three occasions, he ensured Gyan had the luxury to deal with the Sudanese on the right. One of the fastest men in the game, lethal at his dribbles and ruthless in the tackle. He was the one who cooked Wakaso's goal thanks to his speed and trickery. Nearly man-of-the-match but for Waris' performance.

Richard Kissi Boateng - 7

What a raider he is! After an opening 45 minutes of anonymity, the TP Mazembe man caused more damaged to the opposition and told them - "Men look, we are better than you." Didn’t run on the overlap very often but was dangerous when he did. Good show

John Boye - 7

Boye as usual was good in his department and rarely surged forward as he was instructed by the coach. He made the area a comfort zone and ensured the Sudanese had no serious goal chance in the vital area.

Isaac Vorsah - 8

One of Kwesi Appiah's most trusted lieutenants the centre-back showed why the coach has kept faith in him despite recent criticism. He keeps the shape well and did a good job of tracking the runs of the Sudanese strikers. Master in aerial displays. He did his tracking well and read the back-line with an eagle's vigilance.

Rabiu Mohammed - 7

An efficient display by the Evian TG man, sure three Sudanese midfielders combined had little room to operate chances for the visitors.

Sulley Muntari - 6.5

Showed maturity and class at his age and experience. His  long-searching balls came but Gyan was marked out by his opponents. Started wide on the right but had licence to roam and did so with great effect. But faded out after the interval and rightly replaced in the 57th minute.

Mubarak Wakaso - 7.5

Have you realised the Espnayol man is turning into a superman? When he blasted home that thunderbolt in the 38th minute, the whole stadium shouted what a rocket! He was also involved in the first goal - took the free-kick which was eventually nodded home by Gyan.

Kwadwo Asamoah - 6.5

The Juventus man was in Turin in the entire first department but joined his colleagues to press home the victory after Muntari handed him the armband. Full of energy but, at times, hesitated to pull the trigger and that allowed Sudanese to regroup.

Asamoah Gyan - 7

On an evening the Al Ain man shed leadership responsibilities, he bagged his 32nd international goal and moved within a goal between Abedi Pele as Ghana's all time top scorer. His 19th minute opener was a poacher's goal and could have scored more but for the injury he suffered. Gyan is still the man!!!!

Abdul Majeed Waris - 8.5

In his first start for the Black Stars, Waris was not overawed by the occasioned as he masterly partnered Asamoah Gyan in attack. There was a surge of electricity every time he got the ball. Gave the Sudanese hell and put Ghana 3-0 up with a magnificent header. His lightening pace and trickery was a problem for the Sudanese, it created some opportunity for Gyan to also display. Debut goal in five international caps. His 79th minute goal formed the talk of the night nationwide. He just did not end there but he assisted Badu for the second as well. For his performance in his first Ghana start, Waris is the Man-of-the-match.

Subs:

Emmanuel Frimpong - 6 - A secure presence in midfield and made ghost runs into the box that confused the Sudanese on his Ghana debut.

Solomon Asante - 5.5 - Always involved in neat exchanges and highly dangerous.

Agyemang-Badu - 6.5 - Badu scored from Waris' assist but there was concern over his Jon Mikel Obi-like display by passing the ball backwards too often.
