How Ghana players rated against Niger in AFCON clash

Published on: 28 January 2013

FC Porto whizkid Christian Atsu was the star-man in Ghana's resounding 3-0 victory over Niger in their final Group B clash in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in Port Elizabeth.

MTNFootball.com rates the performance of each Ghana player at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Fatau Dauda 7

The 27-year-old AshGold shot-stopper maintained his mettle and his performance in post was assured as it has always been from the first game against DR Congo.

John Pantsil 7

Best performance yet at the 2013 AFCON. The 31-year-old was able to do what has always been expected of him in the tournament - combine defensive duties with attacking movement.

He took over the armband when Gyan was subbed.

Harrison Afful 7

Reproduced his coolness in the game victory over Mali. Though Mohamed Soumaïla and Moussa Maazou sometimes had the better of him, he excelled in the game.

Isaac Vorsah 8

Continues to put his body on the line for country. The Red Bull Salzburg man was commanding in defence as he showed little tolerance for the opposition attack. He manned the back with vigilance. A few misplaced passes but he still made a real impact.

John Boye 8

He grabbed his first AFCON with a close range finish - and that is a good attribute of a world class center-back.

Mohammed Rabiu 7

The Evian TG man didn't get the driving performance we saw from him in the triumph over Mali but he still managed to write a good statement about himself. Despite the numerous tackles he sustained from a rough-tackling opposition, he good until Boateng took his place.

Kwadwo Asamoah 8

The Juventus man picked up his old good form as he combined well in the middle with Atsu and Rabiu. Undoubtedly, his best game at the Nations Cup so far.

Albert Adomah 7

Adomah's pace and incredible energy levels proved crucial for the team as he set up Asamoah Gyan for the opening goal. The 25-year-old covered more distance on the pitch than any other player.

Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu 7

Once again a complete package in the middle. He made the middle his and dismembered the opposition's challenges. The only flaw in his game was that he failed to surge forward more times as we have seen from him.

Asamoah Gyan 8.5

Hit his first goal of the campaign and set up the rest of the two goals. His strike was simply sensational. And it will definitely give him a confidence boost. This shows how influential and unselfish Gyan was especially by setting up Atsu's second goal. Other strikers could have taken the chance themselves and shows how Gyan is leading by example. Could have converted some chances but overall one of his best performances for Ghana. But for the substitution, Gyan could have been our match-of-the-match.

Christian Atsu 9

Displayed a man of the man performance in the game. Scored his first AFCON in style as he initiated an attack and finished it off.

Substitutes:

Derek Boateng - 6

Solomon Asante - 7

Emmanuel Clottey - 5
