How Ghana players performed against Cape Verde

Published on: 02 February 2013

MTNFootball.com assesses the performance of Ghana players after Saturday's 2-0 quarter-final win over Cape Verde at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Fatau Dauda - 9.5

Words alone cannot describe the performance of the 27-year-old AshantiGold gloves man.

Among his seven world class stops, that 81st minute diving save from a Djaniny power strike will go down as the greatest save of the tournament.

In fact, his saves sent Ghana through to the last four of the competition.

John Pantsil - 7

After a sloppy first half, Pantsil put up a good display and matched the energy and the pace of Tavares and Carlitos.

Pantsil at two crucial points turned into a central defender as he dealt with two dangerous balls with Vorsah and Boye completely beaten to it.

Harrison Afful - 6.5

Afful couldn't come into the game that much in the first-half but was forceful after the break as the Black Stars settled down.

Isaac Vorsah - 6

The Red Bull Salzburg man was not on the ground in defence.

His clearances were not that convincing.

However, one positive on his afternoon was the tailor-made low cross that found Gyan in the middle but the Al Ain man failed to make use of the chance.

John Boye - 6

An average performance form the Stade Rennes man.

He was somehow fairly solid in defence.

Kwadwo Asamoah - 5.5

This game passed unnoticed for the Juventus workhorse.

He failed to stand out in the game.

Albert Adomah - 5.5

The Bristol City player just could not rise to the occasion and he kept on delivering faulty passes.

He was replaced just two minutes into the second half summed up his afternoon.

Mohammed Rabiu - 6.5

The Evian TG man was the hard-man of the Ghana team and he left no stone unturned.

Went in for the tackles when necessary but he needed to be careful because he picked booking.

Maybe Kwesi Appiah knew it and replaced him later on.

Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu - 6.5

Neat and tidy though he failed to show the real Emmanuel Agyemang Badu stuff.

He could have done better with that Solomon Asante low cross in stoppage time.

Asamoah Gyan - 5.0

Questions are being asked again about the pace and vision of the the Black Stars captain.

It was hard to believe some of the chances he failed to convert.

Anyway he won the penalty for Ghana.

Christian Atsu - 6

Maybe expectations were high and huge after his showing in the victory over Niger.

He wasn't a total flop but there were significant flaws in his role on the right side of attack.

Substitutes:

Mubarak Wakaso - 7.5

He used the second 45 minutes to write his statement.

He came off the bench in the 47th minute to replace Adomah and he scored both of Ghana's goals.

Solomon Asante - 6.5

The TP Mazembe man was a delight to watch once more.

His pace, deft and antics brought the crowd standing.

He was a full package and Badu should have scored from his through pass that sailed beyond two opposition defenders.

Derek Boateng - 4

Boateng was straight and didn't have enough time to write a statement about his form.
