Home pressure is killing us - Kotoko goalkeeper Soulama

Published on: 18 December 2012

Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Soulama Abdoulaye says heightened pressure from the fans is responsible for the side’s poor home record.

The champions have won only twice from the six games played so far at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium this season.

Kotoko have however churned out more assertive displays on their travels despite their inability to pick up wins with superior ball possession and a lions share of the chances created.

And goalkeeper Soulama says the pressure playing before an expectant home crowd is telling on the team’s performance.

“At Baba Yara Stadium there is a lot of pressure on us,” he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

“The home pressure is too much but when we are away we can play our normal game better.

“I always say at Baba Yara Stadium, the pressure on the team to perform is just too much.

“In away matches, we are free and can play our normal game but at home, we have to win by force to make the supporters happy.”

Kotoko currently lie outside the top four with 19 points – three less than leaders Aduana Stars after eleven rounds of games.
