Former Asante Kotoko chairman Herbert Mensah is backing the club to make a huge statement in this year’s CAF Champions League.

Kotoko will begin their quest to reach the Group stage of the competition for the first time since 2006 on Sunday against Barrack Young Controllers of Liberia.

The Porcupine Warriors have failed to conquer Africa despite winning the Ghana Premier League for the last two seasons.

"Kotoko is a great club with a lot of history and with proper preparation they can be a match for any team on any day.”

"It’s been years since Kotoko got to the later stages of the Champions League and this year could be the year that we go back to our rightful place.

"Ghana has been blessed with talents when it comes to football and it is about time we get the right results from them."

Kotoko’s last African title was on in 1983.
