Hearts legend Polo okays Akunnor sacking, eyes coaching role

Posted On Friday, 2nd November 2012

Mohammed Polo believes Hearts' decision on Akunnor was right

Hearts of Oak legend Mohammed Polo believes the Phobians took the right decision to part ways with C K Akunnor after a poor run in the league.

He said: “After beating Edubiase 5-2, the team’s performance started deteriorating so the coach obviously had to pay for that.”

Akunnor was fired by Hearts on Wednesday following the club’s abysmal showing in the Glo Premier League.

Four top-class coaches have been mentioned to replace Akunnor with former Ghana U23 boss David Duncan likely to be named new trainer of the club.

But Polo, dubbed the dribbling magician during his playing days, claims he can steer the former African champions out of the tides.

“The job seems to be going round all the time, so why not?” he told Accra-based Happy FM. “If I its passed on to me I will gladly accept it.”

The 19-time champions are in the drop zone with 4 points from their opening five games of the season.

GSN, its 20 league titles, don’t take us back. Check the records!!

  2. Nii says:

Welcome, Polo. Surprisingly the Hearts hierachy are always pretending they are not seeing or you don’t exist. But we your admirers believe you hold the key to the technical success of the club. Indeed, you have the charisma, firmness and the technical- know-how to lead phobia to any height. If Togbe and the rest of his team are refusing to acknowledge the fact that you are the greatest Hearts player of all time so be it. Let them continue to experiment with obscure coaches. Your time would come. We shall continue to pray for you.

Has Polo ever attempted coaching any club in Ghana (apart from Hearts)? Has he any coaching license at all? If yes why is Hearts of Oak refusing to give him the chance to handle this club??!! Are they afraid of him??!! If I were him , I’ll look for a club in Ghana (it doesn’t matter whether premier or 1st. Div etc) and “show” Hearts what they are neglecting!!!

  4. KT says:

Carbonite, go to Wikipedia, Ghanafootball.org , ghanaweb and check it. Last season, Thomas Freeman of Asempa FM made those corrections, which revealed that a certain club is ‘hoarding’ trophies. They said they had 22 whiles it had 20 before they had the last one. They claimed they were behind the Soccer Paradise by one FA Cup trophy. It was revealed however that they were two behind. Thomas and the Asempa sports crew did that work, and the PLB boss later corroborated the issue. So please, speak with facts.
