Hearts Chief Executive Fred Crentsil has hailed the appointment of Mahatma Otoo as the club’s substantive captain.

Otoo has been handed the armband for his commitments and loyalty to the capital-based club over the years.

The 20-year-old, who is in his fourth season at the club will be required to drive the team to success after a three-year throphy-less seasons.

The club’s chief insists the club got it right in given the former Sporting Mirren the new role.

“It is true that he (Otoo) has been appointed as the substantive captain of the side,” Crentsil said

“He has shown beyond every reasonable doubt that his commitment to the club is unquestionable and so we believe he can lead the team to success.

“A leader with vision and foresight is needed for the success of any team and Mahatma has that in abundance."

Otoo has been in devastating scoring form in the off-season and will be expected to spearhead their title ambitions this term.

Towering defender Osei Bonsu will remain his assistant.
