Coach Bashir Hayford says his only priority is to keep AshantiGold in the Ghanaian top flight.

The Miners crumbled at the tail end of the first round after an impressive start to the campaign.

Not even a fifth place finish by the end of the first half was enough to save the job of Yaw Acheampong who was later shown the exit.

And despite a realistic chance of the Obuasi-based club winning the Premier League, new coach Hayford says his only concern is ensuring the team escapes relegation.

“My job here has been well defined and therefore it is not the case of winning all the time,” the ex Medeama coach said.

“My target is to ensure we remain in the league and also to develop players to save the club huge sums of monies used during recruitment.

“So my job here is development oriented not result oriented.”

AshGold resume their campaign with a tough away trip to former champions Berekum Chelsea on Sunday.
