Have your say: Why did the Black Stars fail to AFCON title?

With the dust settling on Ghana’s campaign at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, there is the urgent need for us to find the reasons for the Black Stars failure.

Some might even say that a fourth-place finish at the tournament is not a failure because we put pressure on the players by insisting on the title.

There are one of the several reasons given for Ghana’s inability to win the title.

Several other reasons have been given  -  mutiny in camp, fight over the captain’s arm band, a stubborn coach, players hiding injuries, wrong players chosen for the tournament and several spiritual reasons.

Other also think that the Black Stars are overrated and Ghanaians think too highly of their team when they are an average side.

We need to find a solution to the problems if there are any so that we can avoid this situation next year if we qualify for the tournament.

What do you think the Ghana Football Association must do to be able to solve problems (if there are any) for the Black Stars to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title?

Do you think coach Goran Stevanovic must be sacked?

Do you think some of the players in the Black Stars must be retired?

Do you think we need more local players in the Black Stars?

Poor strikers:Asamoah was half-fit;Tagoe,as usual ,didn’t impress and should’t have gone with the team in the stead of Emml Baffuor;Jordan is only a up and coming. We need to look for better and proven striking options to parner Asamoah Derek Asamoah shd have made the grade too!
2..Our playing style is too defensive;over relying on one striking is suicidal
3.. We need to find a permanent solution to the John Mensah injury problem.
    4. Over-reliance on foreign non-African-baed players.

  2. Ijahman says:

first of all the coach does’nt know what he is doing. He just keeps experimenting. He has to be replaced with Sellas Tetteh or Marcel Desailly.
Secondly, his selection is wrong. The core if the black stars 23 okayers should be as follows

    Goalkeepers
    Kwarasey, Kingston, Adjei.
    We still need Kingstons Experience.

    Defence
John Boye, Daniel Opare, Samuel Inkoom, Jonathan Mensah, Isaac Vorsah, Massahudu Alhassan, Afful Harrison, Emmanuel Frimpong

    Midfield
Michael Essien, Derrek Boateng, Kojo Asamoah, Albert Adomah, Dede Ayew, Agyeman Badu, Anthony Anan, Abu Mohammed

    Strikers
Asamoan Gyan, Jordan Ayew, Kingsley Boateng, Emmanuel Baffour

The older guys or injured ones should all be eliminated

    1. Gyan missing the penalty.
    2. (Most important) we miss essien our midfield lacked creativity and incision that he brings to the team. We cannot create clear cut goal scoring opportunities without essien. If the midfield can create good opportunities and have jordan strike he will bury them with aplomb he is clinical in front of goal. We need midfield to create chances and strikers to score we hardly created chances from open play.
    3. The coach is a dummy what does he see in tagoe, and lee addy, addy never joined in attack nor did he try to link up play with his teammates to bring the ball from defense to attack.
    4. Humility we need to be humble and work hard towards achieving our objectives.

  5. Chris opoku: SA. says:

I don’t think the coach knows what he is was doing, maybe he was under presure or he aimed too high or he thought ghana got quality players so he want to prove to world i think he is the only one can answer those questions. (Reseasons)1. he doesn’t know where he must play a player in his regular position eg. Inkoom 2. His subtitute he just call off a player anyhow if we go back to watch his homemate matchs everybody can testify that coach knows his job. 3.poor selection maybe he was reading from people comments you can read from people comments before the game started and people will suggest some players where two or three match the same players then he will play them, i remmenber people were criticsing why he doesn’t want to play jordan ayew, our next game he fix him. Im not a coach but atleast a best coach know his best XI. We all know Dereck Boateng is a player but he warmed the bench untill the last game he started with him.

  6. dede says:

THE BIGEST MISTAKE THE COACH DID WAS HE SELECTED WRONG PLAYERS FOR THE TOURNAMENT.MOST OF THE PLAYERS ARE BENCH WARMERS, THEY DON’T PLAY REGULARLY IN THEIR RESPECTIVE CLUBS.NEXT TIME WE SHOULD FORGET NAMES AND SELECT ACTIVE PLAYERS AND FULL FIT PLAYERS AND ASAMOH GYAN MUST STOP TAKING PENALT KICKS FOR BLACK STAR.

  7. nicholas marfo says:

pple shld stop talking about D. Boateng bcos he is not decipline. all the two yellow cards that he collected was as the result of his indecipline. J. Mensah was sent off and we did not complain. but this guy disappointed us when we needed him most. also players like tagoe, addy, paintsil, gyan and even inkoom shld exit 4rm the team. yes i mean inkoom cos the way he gave the ball to the Zambians that leads to the goal was terribly. the coach shld stay and correct his mistakes, he has gain experience 4rm the tournament which wl help us in the future.

  8. kassbak says:

If what I heard this morning on Asempa FM is true, then the management team needs to sit up. “Senior players” making “junior players” to polish/clean their sandals/shoes, some sending others to buy cigarette, players gambling playing gamble with their wining bonuses, players verbally assaulting each other and all sorts of intimidation.

  9. onaa says:

    1. THE COACH WAS NOT OF HIMSELF ( he couldnt seprate 1st eleven frm super-sub) FOR ME I THINK JORDAN SHLD BE A SUPER-SUB.
    2. CAPITAL PUNISHMENT SHLD BE INTRODUCE IN THE CAMP. THE ISSUE OF CAPTAINSHIP, I THINK ITS: J.MENSAH-J.PANTSIL-S.MUMTARI-A.GYAN-D.AYEW, I STAND FOR CORRECTIONS PLSS. SO IF THAT IS THE CASE, THEN I THINK A PLAYER LIKE A.ANNAN SHLD BE PUNISH FOR TAKEN THE C/BAND FROM A.GYAN IN THE GAME AGAINST ZAMBIA.

  10. bebe says:

One of the reasons why Ghana couldnt beat Zambia is tactical.Secondly, there is too much individual play.Ghana did not played as a team and above all,Asamoah Gyan did not show any striking prowess and his greed and selfishess cost Ghana. Can the coach explained why he used Lee Addy at the left back against Zambia?Lee addy’s turning was poor, could not join the attack at the left.He hardly crosses the centre.Ghana was attacking in the middle which is packed by the Zambians, hence we cant penetrate.Inkoom at the right who is running deep to join the attack too was not effective simply because he cant read the movement of the Zambians well and just floating the ball aimlessly. No wonder,he aimlessly float the ballto a Zambian player that resulted in a goal.I think, team spirit, poor selection by the coach cost Ghana.I dont think the coach is tactical enough to change a game.`

  11. Sele C. says:

First of all it started with the selection. In all honesty, I believe the coach made the right decisions in defense as probably the best player in the Ghana team hands down was John Boye! He saved the BlackStars many times and dominated many of the opposing attackers. Inkoom was the only negative to an otherwise strong defense. His crosses were terrible majority of the time and in my opinion, did not defend well when the Tunisian’s scored from the cross.
The midfield was pretty solid but we had under performing stars specifically Sulley Muntari and Kwadwo Asamoah. I believe if they were both on point with their performance we would not be crying about the most important problem which seems to be our lack of a clinical finisher. Asamoah Gyan is a good striker but lets face it, his head is not really in the game and i do not believe our #1 striker should be concentrated on dancing, rapping and putting out music videos. We definitely needed to take 2 other strikers and i feel Baffuor or Derek Asamoah and Quincy should have been selectes instead of Prince Tagoe. Quincy in particular would have given us the speed and creativity we lacked up front. Hopefully the coach will make a stronger attacking selection next year for the tournament. I think some of the players should retire and pave the way for “younger” players to get an opportunity to play and most importantly we need a new Captain who will motivate the players and be present in most of our games.

  12. JAL says:

I am really surprise why nobody talks about the Ayew brothers and their stile of play.
