Have your say: Who was Ghana's worst player at the AFCON, should he return against Sudan?

Published on: 20 February 2013

Which Ghana player was most disappointing at the 2013 Nations Cup and for that reason should not return for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Sudan.

Was it:

Isaac Vorsah?

The 24-year-old consistently emerged one of the most lowest ranked player after every Black Stars game in South Africa. His decision making and tackles were highly poor and made several blunders.

He was torn into shreds by the very average Aristide Bance in Ghana’s penalty shootout loss to Burkina Faso in the semi-finals. Should he return against against?

Derek Boateng?

Was very poor anytime he played. Has been a pale shadow of himself since his problems at club leve started. Boateng desperately needs to get regular games to save his international career otherwise it will be pointless to keep inviting him for Black Stars game only for him to keep embarrassing himself. Should he return against Sudan?

Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu?

The 22-year-old's decline at the Nations Cup was incridibly sharp. He has been so good for the Black Stars over the years that I was still in denial over his shambolic performance. The Udinese midfielder's defensive solidity was completely gone, lacked his initiative and drive going forward and lost the ball one too many times.

His attempt to shield the ball with his body and very poor kick in the shootout perhaps cost Ghana an opportunity of playing in the grand finale despite a very poor team performance against Burkina Faso. Agyemang-Badu clearly needs help and this could come in the form of he being dropped in order for him to retake stock. Should he?

Christian Atsu?

He has been playing quite well on his return to FC Porto but was nowhere to be found when called upon at the Nations Cup. Yes, he scored a goal and had his moments in South Africa but we should all agree he played way below his potential. Maybe he needs to sit some games out to get his acts together. Should he return against Sudan?

Albert Adomah?

He has something, but his deirect approach definitely not working at international level. A lot were said about his lightening speed and quality delieveries but these attrubutes were seriously lacking in his game at the Nations Cup. I think we can find better options. Should he return against Sudan?

Asamoah Gyan?

Yes he is the captain, but if he is not leading by example by fulfilling his core duties as a striker ie converting ‘glaring’ chances, then what is the point? I know his experience and clout as a player is vital for the national team, his assists have improved so either we redefine his role or simply get someone more efficient upfront.

Emmanuel Clottey?

I am sorry but he does not deserve a recall for now, period!

Jerry Akaminko?

Had one game but was totally depressing to watch. His positioning for a defender of his calibre is just bad and all he could do was to hold onto a shirt of an opponent just to recover and in the end conceded a costly penalty against DR Congo.

What available alternatives would you suggest in replacing players who disappointed at the AFCON.
