Black Stars players getting ready for training

Which three players should be excluded from the Black Stars provisional 26-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations?

The squad will leave for a pre-tournament camping in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on 4 January to 16.

Head coach Kwesi Appiah will take the decision after playing two friendly matches against Egypt and Tunisia in a spate of three days.

Ghana squad:

i think dis three will be excluded, Rashid Samaila, Solomon Asante, and Yahaya Mohammed

  2. kuukuphilly says:

rabiu mohamed, jerry akaminko and awal mohamed….it think this method of taking the players along then dropping them when is all set and done needs to be revisited.

  3. Papa Nkrumah says:

Looking like Rashid Sumaila, Rabiu and Adomah.

The biggest, saddest problem is that the players who would be dropped will not have the chance to prove themselves as they will not even be part of the team by the time BLACK STARS play the two friendly matches against Egypt and Tunisia. The coach will drop them before he even properly assess them. What kind of planning is that?

  4. Gam says:

I think we shld leave this for the technical team to hundle. They are going to be with the team for the camping period and the they can easylly tell who wld make it.

  5. texas says:

Mr writer this topic “Have Your Say: Which three players should be dropped from Black Stars squad?” should not be put up for discussion in the first place. This is very difficult situation even for the coach, and topics like this will bring about all kinds of speculation that will surely put unnecessary pressure on the coach. The coach has named his provisional list. Please guys allow him some peace of mind and space to enable him continue executing his plan. You can say all that you want if the coach does not get to the target set for him but for now let us all give him the support he needs because he really needs our support.

  6. nana - AA I hope you can read this says:

A system I believe the ghana manager should look into, will bring the best out of K.Asmoah and many others! 3-5-2 system – using wing backs

I’ve said it numerous times on this site and ill say it again, for my guy to flourish he has to be played in the right position. Many Ghanaians have been critical of Asamoah in recent games and tournements for going missing in games this assesment is fair.

However in his defence, when has he played behind a sole striker at club level NEVER.

Kwasi appiah with all his xperimenting has never changed the formation to suit our real star player.

Why don’t we play the Juventus formation there are many benifits to this and it actually suits our current strengths let me break it down.

    1) is it not us Ghanaians and even our coach who cries say we have a left back problem.
and do we not have fantastic centre backs, why not play three centre backs maybe boye, vorsah and one of the mensah’s. then have k.asamoah play his usual left wing back position where he coveres the left back slot and acts as an othodox wingers (trust me when I say Gyan will get goals from his crosses). On the right me myself honestly I don’t know in a normal sense it should be inkoom and with his energy he should thrive in such a role or opare but both have been dissapointing this year so that right wing back position needs to go to a player with energy and a player who can cross and defend. (Whilst writing this even though it is not his position i believe Agymang Badu could do us a job here).

now goes to the middle three, here just like Juve we need a player who can simple sit and protect the defence, that we have options but I would at least for the first game go with Annan for experience.
To the left of him I will go with one of the trump cards in Wakaso, this guy has the potential to be the new Muntari, his left foot is major and that boy can really play. The other midfielder I would select would be Andre Ayew, he loves drifting inside here he wold have the opportunity to burst though the middle and also drift arounf the pitch like the way Marchiso does for juve, he also has the chance to run into the box.

Now the free role in a sense the player who can drift to the wings and play in behind the striker should be if not Andre then Atsu or in another game my man Quicny (this is he giovinco role) this player requires skill and pace and movement as he will be expected to help Gyan with he goal scoring. Upfront to start the tournement at least upfront it has to be gyan.

Now I think this team may not be the best individually but trust me if the system is well drilled and they focu well no team in Afcon can beat them, this is why Juve went unbeated for 49 games becasue it is such a hard system to crack if your players are right and they work for eachother. Im 21 and I have sussed this out, even Manci at Man city is trying this formation.

Kwasi why not give it a try!!!

    • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

YOUR FORMATION IS USELESS. THE BEST FORMATION IS 532. GOING 49 OR SOMEWHAT GAMES WITHOUT A LOSS IS NOT THE SAME AS WINNING TROPHIES. THEREFORE, UR FORMATION IS GARBAGE. IF JUVE MEETS A CLUB WITH FIREPOWER, THEY WILL CRUMPLE. YOUR OFFENSE IS YOUR BEST DEFENCE. IF U HAVE A TEAM THAT CAN ATLEAST SCORE, YOU GIVE YOURSELF A CHANCE OF WINNING. HOWEVER, IF U HAVE A TEAM FULL OF DEFENDERS AND NO STRIKERS, U ARE AS GOOD AS DEAD. IF YOU GET CAUGHT BACK THERE AND U GET SCORED ON. HOW DO U STRIKE BACK? THIS IS WHY WE CANT HAVE 3 DEFENDERS AND 5 MIDFIELDERS CLOGGING UP THE MIDDLE. WE DONT WANT CONSTIPATED MIDFIELD, BUT FLOWING MIDFIELD. THIS IS WHY U NEED 3 MIDFIELDERS

  7. flezy says:

    D.Boateng, Solomon Asante,and Rahid Sumaila

  8. zinton torres says:

i think these players shd be asked frm de team; albert adomah, ismaila, solomon asante

  9. Pillar says:

The following players must be dropped from the squad: Rashid Sumaila, Rabiu Mohammed and Solomon Asante. With the inclusion of Wakaso Mubarak, Ghana’s left back problems are solved. He has really played that position to perfection before during 2007 under-17. He is good in the air, on the ground, excellent tackler, ball juggler, good surging runs on the flanks, good passer of the ball and above all power in the left foot coupled with his versatility and deft touches.

  10. Zap says:

Yaya Mohammed, Albert Adomah and Solomon Asante

  11. SNOW DEMON says:

    KISSI BOATENG (NONCHALANT)
DEREK BOATENG (MEDIOCRE) AND KWADWO ASAMOAH (FLATERING TO DECEIVE)

  12. Kenneth County says:

Mr Editor, I think it is too premature to ask readers about which players they would like to see dropped from the squad even before the training camp begins. I wonder what criteria you are asking them to use to arrive at their decisions other than naming players they don’t like or have not seen in action before. No wonder the local players are straightaway being nominated for the drop. I thought the coach and his technical team will decide which players to be dropped after assessing their fitness and form at the training camp. I wonder what will be achieved by this exercise other than unnecessary arguments, mudslinging and acrimony.

    • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

HEY KENNETH, COMOTT FOR DERE. WHERE WERE UWHEN GHSCCRNET PUT UP ARTICLES OF GOLAIES, DEFENDERS, MIDFIELDERS ANS STRIKERS FOR US TO MAKE OUR SELECTIONS? DID U ALSO THINK THAT WAS PREMATURE FOR AA? LOOK, IF U DONT WANT TO ANSWER THE QUESTION MOVE ONTO THE NEXT ARTICLE, U HEAR? THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH SEEKING ADVICE. INFACT, THIS IS A GOOD THING. ITS TRANSPARENT AND IT ALLOWS THE TECH TEAM TO PERHAPS HEAR IDEAS THEY MAY NOT HVE THOUGHT OF.

  13. samora says:

    Adomah,Rashid and Rabiu

  14. Pinto says:

interesting analysis @ nana…wish football was dat simple..Its something worth trying anyway..My problem however lies in our defending with such a formation..

  15. mini-okee enterprise says:

I think KWASI APPIAH”s intensions are clear KISSI BOATENG,RASHID SUMAILA AND ALBERT ADOMA will surely drop.

  16. Rasheed says:

Jonathan Mensah,He has been inactive in his club since november 7 2012.He also has not played a lot this season with black starsAdomah and Asamoah Gyan..

  17. Kwame Adu-Gyamfi says:

Andre Ayew should be moved to a forward position, not necessarily a striker but a winger. Yahaya Mohammed,Solomon Asante, and Awal Mohammmed should probably be axed from the squad.

  18. Dready says:

derek boateng, solomon asante and yahya mohammed.aa is just clueless for real.the job should be given to maxwell konadu or both of the should go.

  19. Dready says:

derek boateng, solomon asante and yahya mohammed.aa is just clueless for real.the job should be given to maxwell konadu or both of them should go.

  20. Ghanaba says:

Kenneth once again you have shown how sensible you are. How I wish many Ghanaians possess your talent for analysis. You are the only one brave and sensible enough to point out this is indeed is unnecessary. Only God knows how people are arriving at their suggestions. It is case of whom I like and whom I don’t like. That’s why many people including like to read your comments. You really think before you write. Unlike the others who just jump on the wagon just to be part of the crowd. Once again bravo Ken.

  21. JOSH says:

Nonsense,i think the team should drop Akwesi Appiah, Nyantakyie and Ghanasoccernet. Lol

  22. augustine says:

difficult question if u ask me but i think if J. Mensah, Vorsah and Boye are fully fit then i’m sorry Sumaila and Awal should be part of the three to be axed from the squad. Adomah I think will jxt fall short

  23. gideon says:

i think anthony annan should be axed to pave way for emmanuel frimpong

  24. abus says:

solomon asante, rashid sumaila, and adomah should be axed

  25. Obibini says:

@nana. Man this young boy should be a coach. I like your analysis. Only if AA wud listen. You’re spot on. Ghana Wud benefit from that formation becos we’ve got guys who are strong and skilful. Kudos to you for your comments.

  26. Fiifi, Berlin says:

Coaching courses have now become CHEW, POUR, PASS business, but we don’t win games with this type of philisophy! It’s creativity, fantasy and forsight among other qualities which win matches and games!A good player doesn’t necessarily make a good coach but could be of good help! Give Milo any reasonably “Material” and what comes out is BUE!All because of how he uses his experience and knowledge of TACTICAL KNOW-HOW to beef up his talent of creativity , fantasy and foresight !! (Oh..oh.. how I wish this coach was a BLACK GHANAIAN) HIS MISTAKE WAS , HE DID NOT IMPART THIS “KNOWLEDGE” TO THOSE WHO WORKED AND UNDERSTUDIED HIM OR…???

  27. Man Piero says:

I tink Jerry Akaminko, Rashid Somila n Albert Adomah should be droped 4m de squad.

  28. POW says:

    HERE ARE MY 3

I earn too little to be cracking my brains for a $20K a month job. What do you think Mr.Editor?

  29. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

DROP THESE 3 AND THIS IS WHY
PAINSTIL: THE GUY IS OLD, SLOW AND TERRIBLE AT DEFENDING. HE WENT TO AFCON 2012 AND WAT HE DID HE DO? EXACTLY…HE HAS BEEN VERY MEDIOCRE AT HIS ISREALI CLUB AS WELL. ITS TIME TO STOP THE SHENANIGANS AA, AND MAKE SMART CHANGES. LET HIM GO. IF THE TEAM IS TO ATTACK AND DEFEND AS A UNIT, PAINSTIL WONT BE ABLE TO DO SO. HE IS OLD, AND SLOW

DEREK BOATENG: SAME THING. ANOTHER HAS BEEN. LOOK AT WAT HE DID AT AFCON 2012? NOT EVEN 1 GOAL. ALL HE KNOWS IS LOSING HIS TEMPER, AND COLLECTING UNNECESSARY FOULS. AA, THIS IS A TOURNRAMNT U CAN WIN AND BOOST UR RESUME. WE HAVE SEEN THE BEST FROM BOATENG AND PAINSTIL N IM AFRAID THEY R DONE. PUT A FORK IN THESE 2. OTHERWISE THEY WILL GIVE U HEADACHES.

RASHID SUMAILA: I HAVNT SEEN HIM PLAY IN THE FLESH BUT I HEAR HE IS GOOD. IM STILL SCRATCHING MY HEAD AS TO WHY AA PICKED HIM OVER DANIEL NII ADJEI..HMM.
OH WELL, KOTOKO NEED SUMAILA TO DEFEND THEIR LEAGUE TROPHY N THE CHAMPS LEAGUE CAMPAIGN. TAKING SUMAILA TO AFCON WILL WEAKEN HIM. THEREFORE, LEAVE HIM. KOTOKO AND THE SATTELITES NEED HIM MORE THAN GBSTAR, AT THIS POINT.

  30. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

ANOTHER REASON TO DROP PAINSIL, D BOATENG
U SEE, THESE 2 ARE OLD, SLOW AND OVER THE HILL. THEY REMIND ME OF MATHEW AMOAH AND ERIC ADDO. THEY KNOW THEY CANT COMPETE FULLY, SO THEY WILL RAISE THEIR SHOULDERS AND HAVE AN EGO IN CAMP. THEY WILL TRY TO BOSS AROUND THE YOUNGER PLAYERS. WE DONT NEED THIS. WE NEED THE PLAYERS TO TRUST EACH OTHER, MINUS THE EGOS. EGOS DONT WIN GAMES. YOUTH AND HUSTLE DO…

  31. kelly says:

Asamoah Gyan, Dede Ayew and Badu

  32. Kwabta says:

Asamoah gyan, andry ayew and kwadwo asamoah hahahahahaha without dis players ghana don finish

  33. thesalonika says:

I like the squad. The players will deliver, trust me.

  34. ancient says:

    Rabui Adomah Jonathan

  35. Henry says:

Abert Adomah, Rashid Sumaila and solomon Asante

  36. Possible 3 players 2 fall short of de final 23 are: Sumaila,(can’t compete wit Boye, vorsah, mensah n Akaminko 4 a place.) Adoma(too soft, slow n weak 2 face African strength.) Awal(very versatile but no room 4 many centre backs.) Some ppl ar just here 2 showcase demselves n not analise futbol. Dey kno nothing about sports, yet dey want 2 boast on their ill comments. “Fire Burn U All”…! Futbol ppl, lets talk n leave dose shallow-minded soccer fans. Go Gh, Go B.S….!

  37. bin gbagbo says:

adam kwarasey, daniel adjei, christian atsu

  38. shemay says:

Solomon Asante is the best. I think Anthony Anan should be dropped along with jerry and Yahaya

  39. Expando says:

I think Daniel Adjei has nothing to offer Liberty how much more black stars. Why not offering chances to keepers like isaac amoako and michael sai.His inclusion really baffles me alot and its time we depth into that
