Ghana defender Harrison Afful want to return to the Black Stars

Ghana defender Harrison Afful proved to be a big hitter this weekend when he crowned a successful year by scoring a classic goal that earned Tunisian side Esperance the Champions League title.

Despite his top class performance, the left-back has not been called up into the Black Stars since some few errors of him caused the country in some matches.

Remember Milovan Rajevac’s first match in charge of the Black Stars against Libya in Tripoli?

After the side defended gallantly, Afful allowed the ball and his marker to escape him which result in the only goal scored by the home side in the 2010 World Cup qualifier. He also has a similar outing in the game against Benin in Cotonou.

But since then he has proven to be pivotal for Esperance in continental and league competitions. With the problem of the left-back in the Black Stars still not completely solved, do you think Harrison Afful should be handed a return?

Or do you think the standard in the Tunisia league is not tough enough for him to warrant a place in the Black Stars?

Have you say in the box below:

yes he has 2 be invited in de BS.

  2. Real sabacious says:

U ppl should spare us with afful’s campaign!if players are been invited in the team on merit, then nana akwasi, wakaso and david addy are the best option for the left full back

  3. Nokware Trodoo says:

If the standard of the Tunisian league is considered low and Tunisian Champions are African Champions, what does it say about African football. Is the standard of the Glo PL in Ghana higher than the Tunisian League?

  4. Prosper says:

He is good player, but i dont think he can fit in de BS.wen we hav players like inkoom, pentsil ,opare ,wakaso, addy.he cant solve de leftback position 2.

  5. JnrB says:

    Ghanaians wont stop this attitude…lol
we are building a team to win the upcoming AFCON competition and not an individual play. Yes Afful is a good player, he score the winning goal to win the CAF champions league. Let the technical handlers do their job and stop the NOKO FIO CAMPAIGN.

  6. Benedette abiaw chelsea says:

Since,he is a natural leftfooted.he should be part of de squad

  7. Musa says:

Ghana has a left back problem(so the technical folks always dey tell us).To solve the problem, we use a naturally right footed player for left back. Now, a naturally left footed player who is doing so well with his club and scored the only goal to help them win the CAF CL. And you still ask if he deserves a BS call up??? Or you’re waiting to pick up some kiddie born to Ghanaain parents outside, who has never played in Gh, not lived in Gh, and has no idea what it means to be called to the BS?? 100% agree with Emmanuel Frimpong.

  8. duodu says:

since there is no better left full back in the team, why not.

  9. GBH says:

There are a few players in the squad who are not even playing regular football .The national team should be competitive .competitions brings the best out of people .he definately deserves a chance to be in the squad .

  10. Rattus says:

I think we should give him another chance by inviting him for some friendlies. Yes, he made mistakes in the past while playing for the Black Stars. However, it looks like he has improved since then. And winning the Champions League in Africa is no easy thing. When was the last time a Ghanaian team got far in that competition?

One more thing, at least we know he’s one of the committed Black Star players. Not like KPB and others I could mention who only think of themselves and their club careers first.

    • King Wise Don Fuzzy says:

Rattus, think about this, agogo scored a goal in a game some weeks ago, does that mean we should start suggesting for his comeback into the team even if the coach thinks otherwise? I know this suggestion thing was what prompted sulleys bad temper towards milovan n the FA sometime ago so lets stop all this and allow the coach to do his work. I know he also have eyes,he will watch!

  11. King Wise Don Fuzzy says:

Whenever I read these news pieces,I laugh. Look,do the technical handlers of our teams not know who to and who not to include in the team? Is it going to make any difference if we all say Afful should be included where as the coach does not get impressed with his performance or thinks somebody out there is much better than him? If they want him,why not go and let GFA know rather than playing politics with this matter? If Ghana were to be Brazil, journalist would have become sports politicians.

  12. danny alvez says:

i was watching the match between heart and enugu rangers, and one of this hearts players dribbled 2 or 3 players and powered a nice drive which was saved by the rangers goalkeeper and all of a sudden i heard the commentator saying that boy should be given a chance in the national team.i was also listening to asempa fm this morning and also heard a presenter saying the coach should travel to thailand, china, saudi arabia to monitor players there.bs is now becoming a fre fre kobo team and its now showing.harrison aful scored for his club and for that matter should be given a chance in the bs lol.i see the bs winning any cup cos it takes experience, team work, energy to win cups.

  13. coconutman says:

The guy has paid his dues and atoned for his past errors. We want players on the Black Stars who are proven winners. Afful showed courage coming back from a serious injury to help his club win the African Champion’s league title and he deserves a second chance. Like the previous writer suggested, call him up for some international friendlies and see how he fits in with the team. African soccer championships are no joke, anyone who makes it in African soccer at the highest level deserves a chance and can make it anywhere.

  14. RICH says:

Yes i think he has now matured.

  15. JK-Sasraku says:

I like Asare and David Addy to be in there first.

  16. coconutman says:

Upon more research found out our man Afful is only 5′ 7 that is a bit on the small side for international football. Playing against the German and some of the Euro teams with an average height of 6′ plus on their forward line and mid field, could be a real challenge at 5′ 7. He has a heart of a champion so call him up when Ghana plays a big tall team like Germany, Norway, Serbia or Holland and see how he performs.

    • Jilo says:

Do you know how tall Fabio Cannavaro was? 5 ft 9 1/2 inches-very small in football and as a centre back, Philip Lahm the Bayern captain is 5 ft 7 inches, Evra is 5 ft 8 inches and a very good player and in fact ver good in the air…full-backs do not necessarily have to be tall bro though it may an advantage sometimes but a team can always strategise to ensure a short player is not caught marking a tall player…i would rather say his apparent ‘light weight’ is what can hinder him. just my opinion bro..

  17. askantwi says:

This guy has been a Black Star material since who knows when. He should be invited at all times. Paintsil is all washed up and should be dropped by now. Wasn’t Paintsil who cause the free-kick with Uruguay that cost us the goal at the world cup. If Harrison is being punished for such lapses, why not Paintsil as well? After all Paintsil has lost considerable form.

  18. askantwi says:

Mr Coconut, the greatest player of all time is only 5 feet 4. Soccer is not about height. It’s about ability, fitness and a little bit of brain.

  19. bakal clifford says:

it is long overdue. we have talents in Africa . we should be looking at such players instead of chasing every European born player who are not better than the local ones just that they are given more opportunities than the Ghanaian born players. one chance is missed and that is all. eg nii adjei and Esme mends are better than takyi. why not call them

  20. Nana (RSA) says:

If Lee Addy and Tagoe are still part of the Black stars and are even starters then Harri should be called. He is better than both of them.

  21. Rooney says:

It is not about the goal he scored in the final. He has been consistent for his club through out the campaign. In addition to that he has the experience when it comes to football on the continent. If non natural left backs will be use for the Afcon, then he should be included in the squad because he is better.

  22. Sam says:

    Give him a second chance
