Hans Van der Pluijm shocked at Clottey snub for CAF award

Posted On Wednesday, 28th November 2012

Berekum Chelsea technical director Hans Van der Pluijm has expressed shock at the exclusion of Emmanuel Clottey from CAF Player based in Africa shortlist.

Clottey scored 12 goals in the just ended CAF Champions League, with just a goal away from equaling Stephen Worgu’s 13 goal record set in 2007.

Pluijm, who coached Berekum Chelsea in the competition, believes CAF goofed by ignoring Clottey’s striking prowess.

“If you play in Africa’s flagship tournament and score twelve goals, I don’t see why you should not be considered for this award,” the Dutchman said.

“I think Clottey proved himself in the CAF Champions League that, it could have boosted his confidence if he were part of the list.”

Clottey scored a 70th minute debut goal in Esperance’s 3-0 thrashing of Olympique Du Kef in the Tunisian top flight after joining them in a US$ 1.5 million deal.

The final CAf shortlist has Egyptian and Al-Ahly midfielder, Muhammed Aboutrika,TP Mazembe duo of Rainford Kalaba and Sunzu Stoppilla gunning for honours.

GFA should find out. If he is a Francophone, he would have been the first to get mentioned. CAF and their Kuluulu.

  2. bawah says:

MOSTLY IF HE WERE FROM CAMEROUN!WHY ALWAYS FRANCPHONES BEST PLAYERS WITH ANGLOPHONE OR ARABOPHONE WINNING CUPS?

  3. SADC says:

What we need is change. We now want somebody from an Anglophone background…so its up to the different football associations to come together so that this dream becomes reality!!

  4. andrew from nigeria says:

but there’s no francophone player in list. i think clottey should have got mention. maybe it’s because chelsea didnt go far. these three players got to the final & semifinal. walid soliman(al ahly), tresor mputu(mazembe) were definitely better this year than those in the list. but then caf awards have little credibility.
