Asamoah Gyan picked up the Samsung Fair Play Award
Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan picked his second successive Fair Play Award at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations following the Black Stars’ 2-0 win over Cape Verde on Saturday.
The Black Stars captain once again provided leadership on the pitch an exhibited great sportsmanship as the Ghanaians secured the difficult win at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Port Elizabeth.
He was the lone striker in the game but managed to force his way through the box when he was brought down for the penalty that Mubarak Wakaso converted for Ghana’s opener.
The victory ends the fairytale story of the Islanders in the continental event but sends the Black Stars to their fourth successive semi-finals.
Gyan picked up the same award during the team’s resounding 3-0 win over Niger.
This award makes him a firm contender for the Player of the Tournament award and his place can be firmed up if Ghana reach the final.
So far Chrisitian Atsu, Agyemang Badu and Fatau Dauda have won personal awards in the tournament in South Africa.
No one cares. What ever training session they are having, they should stop everything and rather look to improve on their passing even if that is only practising ‘passing’ from now till Wednesday,so be it.Our passing has been poor not just in today’s match but throughout the tournament. if you are a professional footballer and can’t keep ‘control of a football’ as well as ‘pass well’, then you are useless.
the people cares
Cape Verde outplayed Ghana…Watching the match,I was just laughing at the notion of Cape Verde outplaying Ghana.if we are being outplayed by Cape Verde. What will CIV to do us?what will teams like Chile,Mexico,Japan do to us?What about Spain, the Dutch, German, the Brazilians???
Whilst I’m at it,I must say anytime we wear that white jersey,we look lethargic,we play nervy and really bad.We wore the white jersey in all but one game, which is our match against Niger and we played with calm, assurance and composure. We wore that same jersey against USA in the last world and played well,we wore that same jersey against Uruguay and played well. This is a fact the jersey with our nationals colour might well be our lucky charm and therefore have to use that jersey. We wore white against Zambia and lost then against Egypt and lost. The jersey might well be our lucky charm.

The way we played really showed we don’t have a good coach. How can u play poor wit badu, kwadwo, atsu, wakaso? No cohesion btw vorsah and boye, no attacking power etc.
I think we are playing averagely. If we can recollect what happened to Italy at the euro 2012 then i think we can justify our stand.they got to the finals and were beaten emphatically by 4 goals.sincerely,we are not playing well.
BACK SEAT DRIVERS ALL OVER GHANA.
With all due respect, does Asamoah Gyan deserves this award? hell no. He is playing timid, he lacks aggressiveness. Once again he blew another clear opportunity to score, we were lucky to have gotten a penalty otherwise the score would have been totally different. Cape Verde would not have send all their players upfront to score.
Our defense and midfield sucked, confused, unorganized and saw with my own eyes Akwesi Appiah loosing weight on the side line with no answers. Ghanaians should not celebrate this victory because Cape Verde exposed our weakness. I did not understand the passes backward. We are getting too many lucky goals. It will come back to hunt us one day
well done guys
we were lucky to have got a penalty …so created that penalty?…..dont just talk like one fool i know on here and think like ur name sounds….if no he das not deserve it….he got it so wht do u do…go kill ur self and burn the sea….why do we always focus on one person even if the team wins…this is typical madness from some blood cloth funs….thumps up Gyan…u were my man of the much!!!
dont be upset guys. the boys were nervous. they did their best and most of all we won! we just need to learn from the match and move on! and wat i saw they saw ghanas attacking pattern and pantsil always sending that high ball down the wings and they have seen through it. pls let work on a dif attacking approach. also i think kwadwo shud be more central. he works better when we just recuperates the ball from deep.
@kwaku,if Gyan was your “man of the much“ then what would you say about Fatau Dauda! I still dont understand why Gyan often delays in delivering his final shot.He will dribble his marker well but will waste time in delivering.Drogba & Eto are not like that.
i agree with u…but lets at list give him some credit and sorpot …he is doing his best…dont forget, gyan was gyan when we den had a good midfielders like essien, kp boateng, muntari and co…so know that its not the same as it was……sulley will always raise the balss to him…and how many have u seen so far in our games?….so just understand that the rythems are not the same….thnx
I wonder why ppl keep pickn on Gyan for nothing.wat do u pple gain weneva u go insultn him cos to me he’s still mkn it big in football and serving the nation as well.wat hve u done for mother Ghana yourself, absolutely nothin yet u sit on weak asses n insult.if u think u r that good, why r u not there.
