Asamoah Gyan will captain Ghana against Malawi
Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has been named as the captain for the Black Stars for Saturday’s clash against Malawi.
Returnee defender John Paintsil, who is the most experienced player in the squad, asked Gyan to continue to lead the team during the match.
Paintsil was not part of last month’s team that beat Malawi 2-0 in Accra in the first leg of the final qualifier for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
But earlier this week Paintsil said he will allow the Al Ain attacker to continue leading the team as he has shown excellent leadership while he was absent.
Paintsil has been named in Ghana’s starting line-up but Gyan will captain the team, according to the Ghana FA.
Gyan will lead the Black Stars attack for the game.

Mr Editor this report is at odds with the latest news release which states that John Paintsil will still wear the Captain’s Armband. According to the release, Kwadwo Asamoah could not pass his fitness test and so misses the game. In comes Afriyie Acquah and Rabiu Mohmmed alongside Anthony Annan; Christian Atsu and Dede Ayew in a 5-man midfield. Asamoah Gyan is the sole man upfront.
