Asamoah Gyan says regular playing time should be the main motivation for young players in picking clubs during transfer seasons.

Several agents are at work at this time of the year ahead of the start of most European leagues to primarily secure lucrative deals for their clients.

Ghanaian players are again in the spot light of heated transfer talks following the Ghana U20 team’s relative success at the FIFA U20 World Cup.

Some of the brilliant players in the Black Satellites team that grabbed the headlines in Turkey including tournament top scorer Ebenezer Assifuah, bronze ball winner Clifford Aboagye and others such as Seidu Salifu and captain Lawrence Lartey have already been linked with moves to foreign clubs.

Clubs, players, agents and managers often look out for suitors with the biggest financial offer for obvious reasons.

Several bright young Ghanaian prospects have made critical decisions on their choice of club often motivated by money only to see their careers run down the drain in subsequent years.

And the Black Stars captain wants the current crop of youngsters to draw lessons from these past experiences to guide their transfer decisions in order to realize their full potential.

“I don’t know where the offers come from but if a player gets an offer you have to make sure where you are going you are going to get the playing time,” he said.

“We shouldn’t rush things to make mistakes. It has happened in the past, we all know that.

“So we should just keep calm and then go to a club that you get more playing time to get the experience.”
