Gov?t wage bill in huge leap

Posted On Wednesday, 2nd May 2012

Government wage bill has increased from 2.4 billion cedis in 2010 to 5.8 billion cedis currently.

The increment represents 99.23 % of public sector workers wage increment over the two year period.

President John Evans Atta Mills who disclosed this at this year?s May Day Parade in Sunyani said workers of almost every state institution have been migrated onto the single spine salary structure.

President Mills asked workers not to allow any attempt to destabilize the peace and security of the country in the run up to the December elections.

?The Law is no respecter of status and will deal ruthlessly with anyone who tries to destabilize the peace and security in the country in the run-up to the December polls.? the President warned.

Touching on the Three-Tier Pension Scheme, President Mills said government was assisting the National Pensions Regulatory Authority to provide enhanced retirement benefits for workers.

The ceremony was used to honour a number of workers who distinguished themselves on the labour front in the year under review.
