Gov?t gives GH¢1 million seed money to new municipal assemblies

Government is allocating one million Ghana cedis as seed money for nine newly created Municipal Assemblies.

The amount is to enable the assemblies set up administrative structures for a full take off.

The nine are part of 46 new district and municipal assemblies due for inauguration next month.

Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo who toured sites for the assemblies in the Greater Accra Region told Journalists the creation of new assemblies is to reaffirm government?s commitment to the decentralization agenda.

The tour provided the minister an insight into the infrastructural preparedness of the new assemblies.

He was accompanied by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo and his Deputy, Isaac Vanderpuiye, Minister of State at the Office of the President, Dominic Azumah and senior officials of the Local Government Ministry.

The Minister visited sites where offices for the Ga Central, La Nkwantanan Madina and La Dadekotopon Municipal Assemblies are to be sited.

At Sowutuom where an office space has been acquired on rent for the Ga Central Municipal Assembly, the Minister proposed an outright acquisition of the property due to its strategic positioning.

The La Nkwantanan Madina Municipal Assembly will be sited at the Madina Social Welfare premises where the Minister interacted with chiefs and opinion leaders.

The Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo implored residents of beneficiary assemblies to be appreciative of government.
