Goosie Tanoh calls for ECG to be decentralised

Posted On Tuesday, 17th April 2012

Business News of Tuesday, 17 April 2012Source: GNA Mr Goosie Tanoh, an Energy Consultant, on Tuesday called for the decentralisation of operations of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to enable the assemblies to distribute power on its behalf.

He expressed optimism that, participation of the assemblies in the energy sector would enable them acquire requisite funds to develop the health and education sectors and other developmental projects as well.

Mr Tanoh, former Founder and Presidential Candidate of the defunct National Reform Party, made the comments at the second day of the ongoing Third Ghana Policy Fair organised by the Ministry of Information in Accra.

He was speaking on the topic: “Meeting Ghana’s Energy Needs-Current Status and Preparations for the Future.”

Mr Tanoh called for private capital investment in the energy sector to accelerate the country’s socio-economic development.

The six-day fair on the theme: “Building Together in a Better Ghana,” is expected to bring together Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in Greater Accra Region under one roof to provide a one-stop access to the public.

The idea is to provide an avenue for people to interact freely with Ministers of State, Chief Executive Officers of public institutions as well as Chief Directors, Directors and other senior members of these institutions, to offer suggestions, seek information, clarify policy issues and better understand policy and projects initiatives.

The fair is expected to provide the platform for the private sector to explore opportunities for possible collaboration that would rake in the much needed resources as well as create employment avenues for the youth.**
