Golden City park nears hosting of Chelsea's Champions League games

By Ameenu Shardow

The Golden City Park is being prepared to host the remainder of Berekum Chelsea’s Caf Champions League games.

The 2011 Ghana Premier League champions made a winning start in the group stage of the continent’s flagship club competition after dispatching off Egyptian giants Zamalek 3-2 last weekend at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The poor attendance at the stadium despite selling a good game was the obvious low point of the match – strengthening the club’s resolve to get their Berekum grounds upgraded to meet Caf’s requirements in time for their next home game against Al Ahly.

“The scoreboard has now been fixed and is now fully operational,” Chelsea’s spokesman Isaac Amonsah told Hot FM.

“We were expecting the visit of the Ghana FA boss (Kwasi Nyantakyi) this weekend to inspect the facility but for obvious reasons he will not be able to come as scheduled.

“He will therefore visit next weekend to inspect the Golden City Park before the next Caf inspection after which we hope to play the remainder of the matches in front of our home fans.”

Berekum Chelsea currently tops Group A of the competition after Day 1 in the group phase.

They next travel to take on former champions TP Mazembe on July 22 in Lubumbashi.

Len clay is one of the best stadiums in gh. And has arguably the best football picth and with a capacity of 30000. How can u compare dormaa bonsua which is not even near a park to a mordern stadium like len clay. Please stop given false information to the honourable public.

  9. Bowe says:

Reporter, to be a good journalist, and reporting something that has being renovated to be inspected where are the pictures to make fans aware of the changes or why its ready, you know this could be misleading. We need picture that will make everyone believe it meets caf standards.
