Telecommunication giants Globacom have congratulated Asamoah Gyan on his appointment as captain of the Black Stars.

The 26-year-old was made the substantive captain of Ghana – replacing John Mensah who has been elevated to the position of general captain.

This means, the Al Ain striker will lead the four-time African champions at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Gyan amongst other things, is also a brand ambassador of Glo and thus the telecommunication firm’s delight at his appointment.

“Since 2003 we have followed with admiration the personal flair and passion you continue to infuse into your game and the field of play everywhere you have been called to duty,” a letter signed by Patrick Awotwi, Head of Business of Glo Mobile Ghana, said.

“However, the quality which has caught our attention the most has been your unflinching patriotism and selflessness in the service of the national team.

“As a Brand Ambassador of Glo, Asamoah Gyan’s appointment as Captain of one of Africa’s most successful national teams is an endorsement of the vision and confidence that Glo has always reposed in him as a super sports brand.

“Glo is therefore happy and proud to be associated with you and applauds your laudable contributions towards making the Black Stars a vibrant and united team.”

Glo who are also leading sponsors of the Black Stars also wished the new Ghana captain all the best of luck in his leadership role.

“While we wish you best of luck in your new role as Captain of the Black Stars, we are happy to assure you that we will stay by you and the Black Stars in this new endeavour.”
