Gladson Awako is set to join TP Mazembe

By Patrick Akoto

Berekum Chelsea midfielder Gladson Awako will fly to Congo to undergo a medical with TP Mazembe on Friday, GHANAsoccernet.com can reveal.

The four-time African champions have agreed a deal to sign the former Ghana youth international from the 2010 Ghanaian League champions.

If the 21-year-old passes health checks this weekend, then the club must wait on a work permit application prior to completing his signing.

‘He (Gladson Awako) will leave for TP Mazembe on Friday where he will be expected to undergo medical,” Chelsea Chief Executive Nana Kwame Nketiah told GHANAsoccernet.com

“If everything goes on successfully, he will officially join the Congolese side.”

The Ravens have completed the massive coup, just days after signing Asante Kotoko top class midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei.

The potential of the exciting former Heart of Lions pocket size midfielder has never been doubt since he emerged on the local scene and his departure will be a massive blow to Chelsea fans.

He was a member of the Ghana’s Under-20 team that clinched Africa’s first ever gold medal at the 2009 World Youth Championship held in Egypt.

  2. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

    QUALITY OF PREMIER LEAGUE
GFA GFA NEEDS TO PUT CERTAIN RESTRICTION IN PLACE TO KEEP THE TALENT IN GH. OTHERWISE, THEY WILL ALL LEAVE AS SOON AS THEY R HOT.
THISTHIS WILL DILUTE THE QUALITY OF OUR LEAGUE. HOW CAN A GH CLUB EQUAL THE SUCCESS OF CLUBS IN EGYPT OR S AFRICA IF ALL OUR PLAYERS ARE LEAVING
    GH EARLY?
GFA SHOULD INSTITUTE A NEW RULING TO HELP KEEP QUALITY PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE LONGER. ALL LOCAL PLAYERS MUST PLAY A MIN OF 3 YRS IN THE PREMIER
LEAGUE BEFORE THEY R ELIGIBLE TO BE SOLD TO A FOREIGN CLUB. EVERY LOCAL CLUB MUST
ALSO HAVE A QUOTA/ALLOW 3 FOREIGN PLAYERS IN THEIR TEAM.
ANOTHER WAY NYANTAKYI HAS FAILED. WE HAVE MUSHROOM CLUBS SPRINGING UP FROM ANYWHERE. WHY DO WE HAVE 2 CLUBS IN BRONG AHAFO?
GFA MUST LOOK AT POPULATION, COMPETITION, INFRATSRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT, LOCAL ECONOMY ETC
BEFORE GRANTING OWNERS A LICENSE OR ACCESS TO STARTING A SOCCER CLUB OTHERWISE THEY WILL SUFFER BCOS OF A LACK OF A FAN BASE.
THE FIFA CLUB LICENSING SYSTEM was approved at the FIFA Congress in Munich in 2006 and since then FIFA has asked national associations to reform.
WE ARE NOW IN 2012, AND IT IS NOW THAT NYANTAKYI WANTS TO IMPLEMENT THIS IN GH. CLUBS IN PREMIER, AND DIV MUST BE
TASKED WITH PROVIDING PLAYER HEALTH INSURANCE AS THEY DO OVERSEAS, OTHERWISE GH SOCCER
WILL CONTINUE TO WADE N WALLOW IN MEDIOCRITY AND THE HEALTH OF THE PLAYERS WILL SUFFER.

THE QUALITY OF THE LEAGUE IS BASED ON THE STARS IN THE LEAGUE. AFFUM,CLOTTEY, BAFFOUR, AWAL, AND NOW ADJEI, FRIMPONG, HEARTS OS OAK CAPTAIN ARE
ALL PLANNING ON LEAVING. HOW WILL THE LEAGUE BE ENTERTAINING AND COMPETITIVE OUTSIDE THE SHORES OF GH?

i totally agree wid ya. its amazing bcos we re always sellin our best players n yet we re always discovering mre talents. i rememba the season wen eric bekoe was in prolific form for kotoko. after jst one explosive season for the boy, they sold him n now, look at wat happened-injuries, injuries n mre injuries. i really hate it wen our year-long GPL stars re sold to teams in africa. they neva aid in our players development. most of them return 2 GH worse than they were b4 they left GH. very soon, GPL will be if they re nt already the football academy of africa. aaaba!
