Ghana's B-rated defence outshine Egypt stars Salah, Aboutrika
Rashid Sumaila was in top form for Ghana.

Ghana's second-string defence has earned the plaudits for keeping Egypt's key players Mohammed Sallah and Mohammed Aboutrika at bay in Tuesday's 6-1 win in Kumasi on Tuesday in the World Cup playoff first leg.

Rashid Sumaila paired Jerry Akaminko for the first time as centre-backs in the qualifying and scored the full marks for their impressive shifts.

But for Sumaila who gave away a soft penalty it would have been ten out of ten for them.

The duo got to start with regulars Isaac Vorsah, Jonathan Mensah and John Boye all out injured.

Daniel Opare who was deployed at a makeshift left back kept the tabs on in-form Mohammed Salah.

The Standard Liege man stepped in for Harrison Afful who was suspended for the tie.

Samuel Inkoom has been inactive the whole season but he fitted in well as right-back.

The quartet are unlikely to start in the return leg on 19 November when players in the treatment rooms regain full fitness.
