Ghana assistant coach Kwesi Appiah says the Black Stars did not deserve to have lost the semi-final game against Zambia on Wednesday.
Ghana assistant coach Kwesi Appiah says the Black Stars did not deserve to have lost the semi-final game against Zambia on Wednesday.
The Black Stars totally dominated the game but went on to lose 1-0 to the Chipolopolo in the last four fixture of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
The result dashed the hopes of the Black Stars as their chase for a fifth title must wait until next year.
Appiah says the Black Stars gave everything to secure victory but were undone by a goal from Emmanuel Mayuka in the second half.
“We dominated most of the game but is unfortunate that out of one of their two chances, they had a goal against us,” Appiah said.
“I don’t personally think anything went wrong. It is just one of those things in the game.”
Ghana will have to pick the pieces ahead of their third-place fixture with Mali on Saturday in Malabo.
The Black Stars beat Mali 2-0 in the group stages of the competition.
However, the assistant coach says there’s lots to be done to lift the players for their final game.
“At the moment, everyone is down. I don’t think we deserved to go out of this competition but that’s the nature of the game,” he said.
“We would do a lot of talking and psyching up to bring their morals up. It’s not easy but we will do our best.”
That is what happens when you talk shit throughout the competition. We have too many interviews. Just keep your mouth shut and focus on the game. That is what cost us. I give props to the coach, He took a terrible team to Semi-Finals. Who can do that? I don’t blame the goalkeeper. Samuel Inkoom or whomever gave the sloppy pass that fucked us up. We need to do a l ot better .
The match against Mali is not important.. Yea it’s about time people stopped all this JAMA and shit-talk.. they should rather be training..
Ass hole kojo moscow get lost with your trash.Omami twe
I really got to say this but i miss essien and kevin prince boateng. soooooooooooooo when ghana plays poorly, we win and when we the fans ask for ghana to play the beautiful game, which they did today, we lost. So now Ghanaians can shut their big mouths. Everything we (including me) will complain. I had faith in this team but we lost. thank God 2013 is just around the corner, just hope gyan wont be missing anymore penalties. Anyway i hope not to see these players ever again: paintsil, john mensah, lee addy, derek boateng, charles takyi, muntari, and prince tagoe. Where the fuck was my boy daniel opare through out this tournament.
thank you tzooh
I think mr GYAN should just honorably retire from the BLACK STARS just like KPB did & command his respect. He cost us the final ticket.
Another useless appointment. instead of leaving Borbor as the assistant coach of plavi so that after failing so miserably we would have sacked him and made Borbor the head coach and retired the so called senior players and injected some fresh blood into the black stars we appointed this tribal coach who made sure they sabotaged Abedi when a captains band was taken from him for the more illustrous Abedi. appiah should be sacked with Plavi and nyantakyi
yo i dont agree with you trying to turn our defeat into some tribal shit. We lost because gyan screwed up. I knew right after the miss that this will come back and bit us in their ass. Well done Zambia, Ghana should just move on and focus on 2013. Maybe then hopefully emmanuel frimpong, ishmael yartey, richmond boakye yiadom, essien and kevin prince boateng(hope he returns) will be included
Wa gyimi? Why should Appiah be sacked? GFA needs to stop appointing SERBIAN coaches. Its the mentality that our players have. Its either they have bad training or just don’t work well together. Sulley Muntari, its not his fault he isn’t producing. He gets no playing time. Jordan Ayew, its not his fault.. Ghana NOW want to use him. and Lee Addy? WHERE THE FUCK IS DANIEL OPARE? This kid used to play Real Madrid. It was just unlucky for us.
thank you. i personally can not stand appiah, tagoe and boateng they need to go
I disagree with Akwasi Appiah. Ghana did not deserve to be in the final. We had our chances to win the game but did not take it. Zambia had just one chance and they made the best out of it. That is that. Perhaps we should think out using only local players bcos I don’t see any difference between professionals and locals.
Exactly, Ghana should’ve used their experience from “foreign clubs” against these Chipolopolo guys. This quite embarrassing.
We used local players at chan and was a disaster even Niger beat us. If Gyan had scored it would have changed the dynamics of the game but his kick was woeful, very poorly taken spot kick. He’s finished and needs to be dropped he’s pompous, lazy and has a bad attitude. I don’t think we deserved to be in the finals only winners do and this case Zambia does cos they made the most out their opportunities.
Kwesi Appiah you are very stupid, you are an ass hole.Did we deserve to win against Tunisia or even a draw against Guinea. You collect bribe from inactive and bench warmers players and do poor selection what else do you expect.
This Appiah or whatever you call him in Ghana has his message all mixed up. Just to shed some light on the art of soccer, possession and dominance doesn’t win goals. Scoring goals wins goals. The Ghanian technique was to dominate, the Zambian technique was to score goals. We both executed our techniques quite well, however at the end of the game one technique outweighed the other and of-course Zambians technique was the dominant one of the two. So how unfair is that. You just lost the game because you are tactically not a better team. Zambia for life
That is true.
*Correction* This Appiah or whatever you call him in Ghana has his message all mixed up. Just to shed some light on the art of soccer, possession and dominance don’t win games. Scoring goals wins games. The Ghanian technique was to dominate, the Zambian technique was to score goals. We both executed our techniques quite well, however at the end of the game one technique outweighed the other and of-course Zambia’s technique was the dominant one of the two. So how unfair is that. You just lost the game because you are tactically not a better team. Also from previous Ghana games especially those of the likes of Botswana and Tunisia, Zambia took notice of the poor tactical attributes of the Ghanians. Zambia capitalized on those weaknesses and beat Ghana. Just because you had more possession doesn’t make you the better team. The team with the best tactics, with or without ball possession is the better team. Go Zambia!!!!

The GFA is the cause of all diz… we have better strickers in ghana BUT its PAY AS U GO…. If u dont PAY then neva think of playing the NATIONAL TEAM… Why should it be so? God will punish you all in GFA n your children will also meet it one day
Bullshit
Hello Guys! Come on!This is sport! Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Period!
But you always have to be Fair Play! You do not need to insult anyone.
Let the people that handle the team do their job for the next assignments. God bless the BS!
Sensible talk amy, but constructive criticism is good because it put the authorities on their toes to execute their obligations appropriately.
No any true lover of football will admit that we deserve to even be at the semi-finals,is God who save us from Tunisia`s war, tunisia deserve to be here not us.
Wow!!! I am sorry Zambia made you cry guys. At the end of it all its just soccer. Praise be to GOD that we still have our lives. Chipolopolo all the way.
I’m consoled for the over all average performances of the previous three times Ghana AFCON appearances. 2008 in Ghana, there were too much expectations so we took the third place. 2010 in Angola, there were less expectations on the injury devastated team so with determination to prove worth, we came up just short to the glory for the second place. If we can play for the consolation third place in 2012, then we’ll still be the highest performance team in our last three AFCON appearances. Maybe if the whole of Ghana will lesser the pressure on our players, fully support them next year, we may taste the glory that has eluded us in 31 years. Goodluck Ghana next Year! Go Ghana! God bless Ghana.
Captain that is a laudable and a good comment. You are a captain in ur comment.
We just need essien to be with the team in the next tournament.. i pray he stays feet next year.
Nobody shld ever make the mistake of calling kpb back into the team..that jackass can go fuck his stupid mother in Germany..oooh gosh i hate that guy with so much passion…fuck him n his entire generation….lets use committed players, even if it means going out of the torney in the first round
I agree with u Ricky, but i don’t agree with ur unpolished language. Those who are calling for prince Boateng are the ones who spit on the floor and swallow it back again.
Kwesi Ghana’s defeat was a fair one. You were at the world cup as Milo’s assistant when Gyan missed that crucial penalty. What business does he have taking this penalty today? As an assistant coach did you have a system in place to prevent him from wasting that golden opportunity? I am sure Renard would have screamed the name out for the person who should have taken the kick.
You are turning the Black Stars into a team of big egos and that is not going to win anything. When Dede took the number 10 jersey from Kwadwo Asamoah I knew you guys were going to destroy the team and create something ugly with big egos instead good players who are humble, trust each other, play hard, respect each other and win together.
Why would you keep Derek on the field with a yellow card , with the potential of him getting a red card when you have all that talent and experience on your bench? You could have brought in another defensive midfielder for Derek after he got his first yellow and not end up playing with 10 at the end.
Why would you go to a tournament with an inadequate number of strikers and unfit players? The Ghana league is full of talented players, you coached a few of them. Do you not think Emmanuel Bafour or Mahatma Otoo was good enough to help the squad? You must select only players that are bonafide starters on their club teams and play regularly for their clubs be it local or foreign. This should be the basic qualification so every Ghanaian knows what the standard is for qualifying. This will prevent allegations of corruption in selecting the players. Also if the Black Stars are selected on merit they should also reflect the composition of the country so there is no tribal bias. Ghanaian first and tribe not at all or second.
I hope you would correct these mistakes, and in the future just camp closer to the tournament location and use the extra time for extra training instead of flying thousands of miles away from the tournament destination.
Fairness has nothing to do with loosing a soccer game. You have the talent and resources so there are no excuses, just win.
Congratulations on coaching the team to the semi finals, you were coaching as an assistant to a new coach so the semis is not bad. This tournament belongs to the Chipolopolos. Go Black Stars!
Are we here to read essays? Your comment is just too long; longer than the article itself. If you want patrons to read your comments, please keep them snappy next time.
Why are people begging for KPB and Essien (not disrespect to him) to come back to BS, especially KPB …are u mad?!! There are quality players that have been overlooked who could have made more of a difference….Opare was not played at right back..not even once…Ishmael Yartey who is true winger was overlooked…..it’s about team balance not about insulting the coach or individual players. The players played and didn’t take the chances…Zambia did so congratulations to Zambia. BS can be the best in Africa and a strong team IF the coach (or new coach in future) augments the core players (Vorsah, Boye, Badu, Annan, Ayew brothers, Kwarasey/Agyei) with good players be they local, foreign based or youngsters…it has to be about talented indivduals who can play together as a team not bribes or senior players “hogging” the positions. Plavi has to prove he deserves to be coach by picking the right players and team, if not, then GFA has to consider the best coach be he local or foreigner.
Jordan played well. l think if he had fed Gyan with one or two of his balls when he got pass his markers, we would have been singing a different song now.But anytime he dribbled and came inn,he shot
I know somebody will insult me but the truth need to be told.
What was the game plan of the Ayew brothers?
1, to always dribble and not to give passes to others team mates?.
2,what advise did the coaches give to them ” hang on the ball as long as you can and spoil the team’s movements? so that you will be kicked down to help the opposing team cover-up?
In shoot they were selfish and playing school football.
they should have been advise to play for the team and be part of the team and not be so individualistic.
3, how much did Prince Tagoe pay to be in the team, GHC 45,000.00? shame to all those who took the money.
IF YOU ALL DON’T KNOW THE BLACK STAR IS FOR THOSE WHO CAN PAY.
IN SHOT ” PAY AND PLAY”
Are u trying to blame the Ayews for the loss did either one of them take the penalty? Dede set up Gyan on one occasion and he shot weakly at the keeper so what is your point? What about Inkoom who shot off target when he had 5 players in the box waiting for a cross. Stop speaking false and biased ‘truths’
Na lie. Zambia played better and we don’t deserve to be in the final
how do you feed smbody hu is not open for a pass. Derek Boateng is in a different class, excellent. This loss has only one cause. We no fit score goal oooo tom! AH! we need to naturalize a francophone born hitman. Clearly we cannot create any good ones. Quincy wud hv made this game coco n boflot.
I and my guys have aerlady been going through the excellent things located on the website and so the sudden developed an awful suspicion I had not expressed respect to the website owner for them. Most of the people were definitely as a result excited to read through all of them and aerlady have in truth been having fun with these things. We appreciate you really being considerably thoughtful and for having varieties of cool information most people are really eager to be aware of. Our honest regret for not saying thanks to sooner.
why do everyone keep saying local coaches? what has local coaches done in recent memory? This coach did a great job, it’s just Asamoah Gyan who missed another penalty. He should not be allowed to take another one, plain and simple. We also need more strikers, start calling up Yiadom and other guys
am from zambia and i think the way ghana was playing more better than as if it was we play the ghana players was playing we will have score 4 goals ghana people a soccer player but they can not score i wana ask ghana people why always gyan is the only player that play penalty thank god we win if ghana people think they will use this player to win the world cup think again ghana is finish now is zambia time
ghana will never gona win african cup again never ever back in the days ghana was good but now all the games play was poor lucky wins zambia time i love my country zambia
Frissco, please stop talking nonsense. Your team did well so congratulations. But Zambia will be beaten by Ivory Coast no problem. If Ghana had strikers your team would have been beaten BADLY.

1)Gyan missed crucial penalty against uruguay in worldcup.
2)Gyan missed penalty in friendly match against korea before this Afcon. Korea went ahead to beat us 2: 1
3)Gyan missed crucial penalty in early stages of a SEMI-FINAL just Yesterday.
GODDAMNN! CAN WE AT LEAST TRAIN SOMEBODY ELSE WITH A BIT OF MENTAL TOUGHNESS LIKE THE YOUNG AYEW??? NOOO

How can this defeat be unfair we were gifted a penalty within the first 10 minutes of the game which we failed to convert as well as numerous other chances. Zambia was more clinical they didn’t have as many but they took their goal well and they deserve the victory u cannot expect to win a game when u don’t convert your chances their keeper to me was the man of the match.
We played well n so what?
I STRONGLY LOVE AND CARE ABOUT GHANA BLACK STARS…AS MUCH AS IT HURTS; TO ME, THEY HAVE DONE VERY WELL…….ONLY THE LORD KNOW’S WHY ALL THIS WENT WRONG ON OUR WAY……..IT WAS 32 TEAMS FROM AFRICA WHO CAME FOR THE SAME REASON GHANA BLACK STARS CAME FOR…………BUT AT THE END 28 TEAMS WENT HOME…..AND 4 TEAMS MADE IT TO THE 1ST….2ND….3RD……4TH POSITION…..IT’S SO EASY WATCHING IT THAN PLAYING IT…..I’VE HEARD INSULTS ON GYAN,INKOOM,SULLEY,KWARASEY AND THE COACH BUT THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THAT NO SINGLE PERSON CAN BE BLAMED, THEY LOST AS A TEAM.EVERYONE HAD THEIR PART TO PLAY BUT LIKE I SAID, ONLY GOD KNOWS WHY. ONCE AGAIN CONGRATULATIONS TO GHANA BLACK STARS……….I STILL LOVE YOU.
This statement is “rubbish”
Guys leave kelvin boateng alone to enjoy his life and hail your wound, why now. He is not the course of ghana defeat you must blame your coach with his changes he made i don’t see reason why he change Dede though it was already late but who knows alwys sully Why, im not saying sully is not good but this tournament wasn’t for him.
Its high time Ghanaians stop singling out a player when the team loses..Drogba missed a penalty yet Ivory coast went on to win the game courtesy “good team”….Gyan loses a penalty,Ghana goes out and they blame it on Gyan..I remember when Gyan scored a free-kick vs Mali, everyone was like he’s the best and all that. There was another free-kick which Dede Ayew took and slipped, everyone was like why didn’t Gyan take it?Now he misses a penalty and everyone starts cursing and insulting, why didn’t he let Dede or any of the players play. What would they have said had any of the players stepped up and missed when Gyan was still in the game……..?Oh Gyan should have played and all…..Come on Ghanaians, let’s just accept defeat for once cos we aint better than some of the great nations that don’t win trophies.Football is either u win or lose and once u lose,u blame each and everyone and not single out one person..Is Gyan the only player supposed to score? What were others doing? When u have a good team,it doesn’t matter who scores..Puyol scored a goal that sent Spain to the Final of 2010 world cup even though they had great strikers so what’s our point here blaming Gyan when any of the players could have scored to put us through? We should just accept the fact we weren’t good enough cos our performance level was low through out the tournament,we just sailed through to the semis and we should be grateful, come back and work harder for 2013 Afcon rather than criticising a player !!
Very wise and sensible comment.
Yes! Drogba lost a penalty but scored two other goals. That’s the difference. Gyan got passes from other team mates after the miss, just as Drogba.
And what are the duties of strikers in a football game? To prevent the ball from entering their post? or to distribute the ball? Come on, let’s face it: A strikers foremost responsibility in a game is to collect balls from midfielders and bury them in the opposing team’s post. Talking about Puyol, has anyone condemned John Mensay for scoring? A defender scoring two goals in 5 matches with a striker scoring only one, is that the norm? Should we applaud the striker? And to think of it, we played only one atop.
BROTHERS, WHAT IS NYANTAKYI DOING WITH THE 11M THAT WAS GIVEN TO US FROM THE WORLDCUP, IS IT NOT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME?
WHY CAN’T WE START USING THAT MONEY IN EMPLOYING THE GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF OUR OLD TALENTED STRIKERS WHO HAVE RETIRED TRAIN THE YOUNG ONES, THAN LEAVING THEM TO BE SECURITY MEN IN SOME OFFICES WHERE THEY DO NOT BELONG? GUYS WE ARE IN DRAUGHT FOR STRIKERS WHICH UP TO DATE HAS BEEN OUR HEADACHE.
WHAT ARE WE DOING WITH THE GEORGE ALHASSA, PETER LAMPTEY, JOHN BANAMAN, FRANCIS KUMI, ANTONY YEBOAH e.t.c, We should be in a good position to exploit their good knowledge than exposing them to rot. They have tjhe capability of impacting on our striking performance. Do not forget, they are the brand that you and I are cherishing today (BLACK STAR)
TELL NYANTEKYI TO GO BACK TO FILES OF THE BLACK STARS AND RE-STRATEGISE AND ADOPT A BETTER MANAGERIAL APPROACH TO THE INSTUTION THAT HE IS TRYING TO PUT IN SHAPE, THANK YOU.
Great post. I was cchikeng constantly this blog and I’m impressed! Very useful information specially the last part I care for such info a lot. I was seeking this particular info for a very long time. Thank you and good luck.
Ghanians you like to plays NAMES, your expiring GYAN can not be the only person to be taking penalties regards how many times he has missed them, poor judgement and over expectancy from coaching team. Secondly, ball possession and “we dominated” mentality should be done with, Ghana would ve pumped in at least 3 goals while busy possessing the ball… WTF was that?! Impressing the entire continent? Nah! guys change. Zambia had ONLY 2 CHANCES and converted one of them and kept BS at bay, thats tact! Anyway, good luck with Mali a bronze can console.
We dnt need KPB back in our team in order to win anythng.. Our boys were performin marvelously b4 he cam in2 da team… GFA are da cause of evrythng..
Why appoint a Serbian coach??
Jux look at da Ivorian team, they av a local coach and upon their political problems they are da best team in da tournament.
I dnt knw wat Prince Tagoe is doin in d asquad.. He was taken to da world cup instead of Laryea kingston..
Dat guy can’t play sh*t and must be taken off da squad..
real talk bro…
infact we played very wel bt my problem is why gyan all the time? Is time he shld consult a divina for the course.congrates to the kasina boys we are proud of you
from the day the coach changed to line-up this is what was destined to happen u dropped 2 gd strikers hmmmmmmmm they are the ones to score goals for u silly and that is what we needed!!
in all things lets give thanks to God, because many people fasted and prayed but at the end he did what he wanted, we would not have known what would have happened if we should have won the the game. my boy i love u all cheer up, move on it is a game one looses and the other win. GOOD LUCK ON SATURDAY. I LOVE U ALL
I have to esexprs my affection for your kindness for women who should have help on this one study.
