Ghana FA chief Kwesi Nyantakyi is not surprised by the decision of Michael Essien to return to the Black Stars insisting Ghanaians must support the move of the Chelsea midfielder.
Essien was a shock inclusion in Ghana’s squad to face Zambia when coach Kwesi Appiah named his 26-man squad on Tuesday.
The Chelsea enforcer is making his return to the Black Stars after a two-year absence and gave absolutely no hints of his return which has surprised many Ghanaians.
Nyantakyi is delighted over the move of Essien to return to help the Black Stars qualify for the World Cup insisting he is not surprised by the midfielder’s return.
“I am not surprised because we do a lot of underground work,” Nyantakyi said.
“We do a lot of things on the blind side of the media. We don’t do things for the sake of doing them but for the sake of getting results.
“We have been engaging him since 2010.We have listened to his concerns and we are happy that at long last he has decided to make a dramatic return to the national team.”
Ghana will play Zambia on 6 September and the Black Stars must avoid a home defeat to reach the final phase of the playoffs.
