Ben Koufie feels the Black Stars are not appreciated enough by Ghanaians

Ex Ghana FA boss Ben Koufie feels the Black Stars team is not being appreciated enough following their ‘magnificent’ qualification to the 2014 World Cup.

The Black Stars will be making its third successive appearance at next year’s finals in Brazil.

Ghana is however drawn in a tough group which includes Germany, Portugal and USA.

Several football pundits have tipped the two European sides in Group G to progress beyound the group stage at the expense of Ghana and the USA.

Even some Ghanaians believe it will take some doing to see the Black Stars make it out of this tough group.

But Ben Koufie who feels Akwasi Appiah’s team are not being given its due praise by Ghanaians thinks otherwise.

“Since Germany beat us 1-0 at the last World Cup, what have they done to strike so much fear amongst Ghanaians,” he quizzed Metro FM’s Kwadwo Kwao Thompson.

“If it’s about attack, if our attack wasn’t that sharp will we be able to beat Egypt 6-1?

“Beat teams four – score two goals on the average per game?

“Why don’t we appreciate the fact that our team is doing well and that they need support.

“Why should the Black Stars be thought of as an inferior side despite the many recent achievements. What do Ghanaians want?

“It is not good, you don’t discourage your own team, you rather praise them and encourage them.

“Did they just qualify? They won matches and won them magnificently. That puts hope and confidence in them and that is what people must appreciate.”

Absolutely. You said it all. Thank you Ben Cofie.

    • family man says:

ghanaians are hypocrites, that is why we are not developing. who is c. ronaldo, real madrid have been losing mathes with him playing so what are we talking about. those who have no heart can pack their things and leave. go black stars, we are winning the world cup

      • OGYA says:

Why should anyone even care about what this guy says, he is just like all the other Ghanaian has-beens who come out every now and then to ease the pressure built up inside his stomach after eating FUFU. What is his point, and what is the reason for the GSN posting this non-story.

        Pure gabbage

      • Papa Nkrumah says:

@family man. I am very disappointed. You are making the same mistake uncle Ben is making. Who told you and him that we don’t have confidence in our boys? Have you guys spoken to all of us. Granted our group is tough but we have a generally better team than ever before. Please watch it before you speak and insult people when you have a problem with only a few

    • my says:

I tell everybody that Ghana will top the group. Germany will be humiliated by Ghana.

  2. FABU THE BEST & GREATEST says:

    i also agree with him.

  3. Chipolopolo1 says:

U are jst goin there to make up numbers. Portugal is not the cech republic or sebia. And the usa wont allow u to bring them down again.

    • Billymoore says:

I wonder how people like you follow football. Portugal was in group F alongside Russia, Israel, Azerbaijan, North Ireland and Luxemburg. They played 10 matches and managed only 21 points out of 30. They had to qualify through a window. What are you guys thinking? Please give us a break. If Essien, Sulley or Asamoah was an European, you would have hailed them as you hail Arjen Robben.

    • BoardRoom says:

@chipopotamus, it is far better for Blackstar to make up the number at Brazil as zambia was added to make up for the qualifier with free 3 points but prostitudely exited. Zambia will never be one of the nations representing Africa in Worldcup!

  4. jj says:

Chipolopolo1!! In 2006 czech republic where the 2nd best team in the world behind brazil. Just remember that.

  5. lion-fire says:

Ben koufie, critics criticize. Don’t speak as If all Ghanaians do not appreciate the black stars. Look at the support at the kumasi sports stadium when black stars play. Are you saying all those fans are unappreciative. Even the players appreciate the support. We are in a group of death for Brazil 2014. Am sure the Americans are afraid, and even th Portuguese too..People should speak their fears but we know they all loce the black stars

  6. lagos boy says:

@ chipolopolo, u have my support Ghana is going nowhere! Its very clear that Portugal and Germany will progress to the next level. Go 9Ja and Ivory coast , go.

    • spellBOUND says:

hahaha, 9ja is in the easiest group of all the afcon countries, but it will be the first to come back home…. a country with over a billion people have achieved NOTHING in over a decade at the mundial. u should be ashamed to even come on on gsn to comment.

  7. CEREBRAL says:

Ben Koufie, history speaks for itself. Ghanaians are one of the most enthusiastic and civil supporters of their national team. On the other hand, If the national team does not do well ghanaians will not hesitate to say it. That is a good disposition. Ghanaians have every right to be intimidated by teams like Germany, Portugal, Argentina, Spain, Brazil, Italy etc because these teams don’t just brag, they have a HISTORY of winning games consistently. When did Ghana beat any of the above teams? We are new at the WC we can and are about to shock the world if we plan and prepare properly, keep our fingers crossed and take our chances. Anything can happen but I disagree that Ghanaians don’t appreciate and support the Black Stars. We just don’t have any history YET to back us up of beating the top teams in the world. Maybe this is the time (2014) to do it…..we couldn’t do it in S. AFRICA in 2010.

  8. Kwaku-Yesu says:

    Well said Mr.Koufie.

  9. Assemblyman says:

I respect this man very much.He is the reason for Ghana’s football success in recent years. His 5 year development plan was highly criticized. But we started reaping the fruits after making to world cups and winning 2009 World U20 Championship..He is a treasure to Ghana football and should be listened to when,he talks.Ayekooo Owura Ben Koufie

    • spellBOUND says:

so i assume due to his stature, its OK to criticize all ghanians due to a few clueless fans????? come again asembly… i don’t care who u are, its an insult to categorize all fans as one due to a few rotten apples.

  10. ARAFAT says:

FOLLOW GHANAIANS IF YOU THINK YOU CAN’T SUPPORT THE BLACK STARS.TAKE LEAD WITH THE LADIES TO CALVARY.

  11. don king says:

mr Ben kuofie, dis is logically incorrect, how did yu conduct ur research? wat % of ghanaians wer ur sample size? did yu go by d random sampling or d snow ball samping? pls come again since ur findings has proven to b bias

  12. kukuphilly says:

ben koffie u r kwasia paa for saying this this.

  13. ZG GH4LIFE says:

USA cant and will never beat us, Germany we held them at 1-0 and could have done better if we were not afraid and didnt give them too much respect, as for portugal they are about to experience the real africa football players.

  14. apiangalege says:

Ghanaians talk too much but turn up zero! Can’t even win Afcon but here boasting that they ll win world cup!

  15. Papa Nkrumah says:

@family man. I am very disappointed. You are making the same mistake uncle Ben is making. Who told you and him that we don’t have confidence in our boys? Have you guys spoken to all of us.
