Ghanaian teenager Derrick Appiah signs for AS Monaco

Ghanaian youngster Derrick Appiah signed a two-and-a-half year contract with French Ligue 2 side AS Monaco on transfer deadline day, MTNFootball.com can exclusively reveal.

The 18-year-old midfielder clinched the deal an hour before the January transfer window closed on Thursday midnight in Europe.

Appiah can take a leaf out of Michael Essien's career who began playing for Bastia before moving on to Lyon and then Chelsea.

"France will be a good place for him to develop himself. There are a lot of Africans in this country and that should make him feel at home," Appiah's agent Oliver Arthur told MTNFootball.com

Appiah played for Amidaus Professionals in the Ghana second-tier league before their promotion to the Premier League last year.

Monaco are second on the French Ligue 2 table after 22 rounds of matches are in polo position to qualify to the Ligue 1 next season.
