Ghanaian striker Mohammed 'Mike' Anas has been labelled a 'prolific goal scorer' by Maritzburg United head coach Steve Komphela in the South African top-flight following the attacker's heroics last night.

The Ghanaian, who scored on his debut for the club in August, came off the bench to net the Team of Choice's fourth as they recorded a 4-1 win over SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The former Mbabane Swallows striker has impressed Komphela and the former Bafana Bafana caretaker coach explained how the club signed the forward.

"Anas is a prolific goal scorer, he had done very well in Swaziland and the he was recommended to come through [to Maritzburg]," Komphela explained.

"We had a look at him, we had been screening a lot of strikers and the departure of Yakubu Mohammed and Orlando Smeekes created the void, so we had to fill the gap and we looked at Anas.”

Komphela believes the striker has the technique to adapt to any situation, but revealed that he still has to work on a few things, notably combining well with his teammates.

"We saw a guy who has strength, he can hold the ball, play with the defender at his back, got a relative amount of technique to survive in any situation, he is a fighter," Komphela added.

"There is still a certain amount of values we are trying to install into him. An element of hunger, humility, selflessness.

"We know strikers are selfish so we say yes be selfish, but play with others, it seems to be working."

Maritzburg's win over Matsatsantsa rocketed them up the table to third spot.
