Ten Ghanaian referees suffered an armed robbery attack on their way to a training program in Tamale on Saturday.

The victims were said to have been attacked in a town called Jema at around 10am while traveling by road to undergo a training program meant to prepare referees ahead of the start of the Ghanaian football season.

The program is an annual training event held by the Referee’s Association of Ghana (RAG) to equip their members with the modern trends of their profession before the start of the season.

It is organized in two batches – the Northern and Southern sector.

RAG completed the first batch of this program for the Southern sector held last week in Cape Coast.

The second batch which was earmarked to commence in Tamale on Saturday now has to be postponed due to the arm robbery attacks on some of the participants.

An anonymous source told Sports Crusader: “We were travelling to Tamale for the Northern sector referee’s fitness test when armed robbers attacked us just after Jema. We still trusted in God to spare our lives.”

The ten referees who fell victim to the arm robbery attacks include; Emmanuel Baah, Alibo, Prosper, Richard Tawiah and Kokoti.

The others are Tachie Menson, Adu Poku and Isaac Mills.
