Ghanaian quartet handed tough UEFA Champions League draw

Published on: 16 December 2013

Four Ghanaian players have drawn difficult opponents in the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League with Kevin-Prince Boateng and Emmanuel Frimpong and Michael Essien the hardest hit.

Schalke 04 will take on Real Madrid while Arsenal battle reigning champions Bayern Munich.

Sulley Muntari’s AC Milan team will  head to Madrid after they were drawn against Atletico Madrid.

Michael Essien and his Chelsea team will re-unite with club hero Didier Drogba as Chelsea cross swords with Galatasaray.

The Ivorian striker will make an emotional return to Stamford Bridge with Galatasaray.

Drogba is a cult figure with Chelsea after his late equalizer and penalty won them the Champions league in 2011.

Emmanuel Frimpong’s Arsenal will face off against defending Champions Bayern Munich.

The two sides met at the same round last season – with Bayern Munich advancing on away goal rule.

Manchester City will meet Barcelona in an intriguing fixture that could go both ways. Manchester City possess one of the best attacking fronts in European football at the moment whilst Barcelona will have mega star Lionel Messi back from injury.

Manchester United have been given a relatively easy pass with a fixture against Greek upstarts Olympiakos who have hot shot striker Kostas Mitrioglou in top form.

The firepower of PSG  will look forward to an encounter against Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen whilst Russia’s Zenit will face  Dortmund in the final fixture of the stage.
