Ema Boateng claims he turned down Manchester City and Sunderland.

Ghanaian prospect Ema Boateng has revealed he snubbed English Premier League duo Manchester City and Sunderland to sign for Helsingborg IF.

The 20-year-old moved to the Swedish top-flight side from UC Santa Barbara in the United States.

Boateng made four appearances last season but netted two goals in Helsingborg’s 2-0 win over Harnosand.

"All trips were booked but everything felt perfect in Helsingborg. I got to sample training and was offered a contract so I stayed and signed," he told the Evening Post.

"I did not know whether City and Sunderland would offer a contract and the transfer window was about to close so I did not dare take the chance.”

Boateng, a former Right to Dream Academy, signed a three-and-half year contract.
