Ghanaian players in sex trade for survival in Thailand

Posted On Friday, 6th April 2012

By Patrick Akoto

Some Ghanaian players have ventured into prostitution for survival in Thailand after been lured by rogue agents and left stranded.

The players were promised bumper contracts but have since been left to their fate as they struggle to earn a living with many unable to pay for a return air ticket home.

The players who featured for some Premier and second-tier sides in the West African country have been hit with the harsh realities of life as crook agents entice the desperate ones for playing careers abroad and cheat them out of thousand of Ghana Cedis for the privilege.

Many are surviving on the benevolence of some resident compatriots while others sleep with women for money.

The Chairman of second-tier side Amidaus FC, Alhaji Baba Gedo Gambo who returned from the Asian country after purchasing kits for his club says the situation is heartbreaking.

“It’s so sad and terrifying to see many of such talents wallowing in Thailand because they have been duped,” Gambo told Accra-based Happy FM

“They were promised big contracts and when they got there, there was really nothing and if you see the way some of them are living, you will cry.

“It’s a sorry situation and therefore believes that the government and the FA should do something to bring them home because their lives are even at risk.

“And the shocking thing is that the number of Ghanaian players in that country is quite huge and so those who don’t get people to help them, they sleep with three or four women a day to survive.

“In that country it’s the women who pay the men in most instances in exchange for their services and so that’s what most of them are doing. It’s pathetic and something must be done to help them.

“I want to launch a campaign so we can all contribute our widow’s mite to help bring them home,”

It will be recalled that a Ghanaian was among 20 African footballers who were stranded in Turkey last month.

That sounds like fun time for these guys. Being paid to have sex with women is a good deal since most men around the world pay (in the USA at least $200 for one hour and $100 for 30 minutes) to have sex with a woman. I swear Thailand will be my next vacation spot.
