Ghanaian players: Europa League round-up

Ghanaian players enjoyed mixed results in Thursday night's Uefa Europa League games.

There were resounding victories for Agyemang-Badu and the Ayew brothers while Quincy Owusu-Abeyie's Panathinaikos held Tottenham Hotspurs.

In Group A, Udinese registered a memorable 3-2 win over Liverpool at Anfield with Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu seeing full time action. The 21-year-old was involved in the sequence of play that sealed the winner for Les Zebrettes.

Black Stars returnee John Pantsil played at the right side of defence for Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv who split the points with Portuguese side Académica in a one-all draw in Group B.

Elsewhere in Group C, African footballer of the year nominee Andre Ayew watched from the bench as his Olympique Marseille demolished Cypriot side AEL Limassol 5-1 at the Stade Velodrome. Attacker Jordan Ayew set up the third goal for Marseille and lasted the entire duration of the game. There was no Enoch Ebo Andoh on the AEL team sheet.

Ukrainian side FC Dnipro fought twice from behind to beat Swedish side AIK Stockholm at their own backyard.Ghana youth pair Kwame Amponsah-Karikari and Ibrahim Moro started the game for AIK but Karikari was replaced after 75 minutes. Black Stars duo Derek Boateng and Samuel Inkoom were axed from the Dnipro team.

Bernard Yao Kumordzi played 86 minutes for Racing Genk in their 2-2 stalemate at FC Basel in Group G.

Winger Quincy Owusu-Abeyie was a thorn in the flesh of the Tottenham Hotspur defence in their 1-1 drawn game with Panathinaikos in Group J. The former Arsenal youngster was replaced in the 89th minute.

Awal-Issah Mohammed came off the bench to play 21 minutes of Rosenborg BK's 0-1 home reverse to German side Bayer Leverkusen in a Group K fixture.

Midfielder David Accam came off the bench to set up the second goal for Helsingborg who threw away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Dutch side FC Twente. Defender Joseph Baffo played the entire second department for Helsingborg while young sensation Edwin Gyasi failed to make the FC Twente squad for the game.
