Ghanaian players abroad: Three goals in Europe

Abdul Majeed Waris, Mubarak Wakaso and Nana Akwesi Asare were the only Ghanaian players who scored in Europe this weekend.

GERMANY

Defender Isaac Vorsah was left out of the TSG Hoffenheim side that suffered a 4-0 loss at lower-tier side Berliner AK 07 in the Pokal Cup.

German-born Ghanaian attacker Karim Bellarabi scored the second for Bayer Leverkusen in their 4-0 triumph over Carl Zeiss Jena on Saturday.

Christopher Avevor was a second half substitute for St Pauli who posted a 3-0 win over Offenburg.

Black Stars midfielder Anthony Annan was an unused substitute for Schalke 04 who demolished FC Saarbrücken 5-0.

Defender Marcel Appiah came off the bench to play 28 minutes for Arminia Bielefeld who won 3-0 against SC Paderborn 07.

Former AshGold striker Eric Agyemang warmed the bench for Bielefeld.

Striker Kwame Nsor failed to make the FC Kaiserslautern first team squad which beat Hansa Rostock 3-1.

Left-back Baba Abdul Rahman was sent off in the 88th minute as his Greuther Furth side suffered a 2-0 defeat at Kickers Offenbach in the German Cup.

In the Regionalliga, midfielder Kwame Kusi levelled the scoring for VfR Neumunster who beat Goslarer SC 08 2-1.

ITALY

Genoa loanee Masahudu Alhassan played 63 minutes for Novara who lost 2-0 at Fiorentina.

There was no first team place for young full-back Nii Nortey Ashong in the Fiorentina team.

Isaac Cofie was an unused substitute for Chievo Verona who trounced Ascoli 4-0 in the Coppa Italia.

Parma loanee Bright Addae was booked on 63 minutes and substituted five minutes from time as his Crotone side lost 3-2 at Cesena in Coppa Italia.

Maxwell Boadu Acosty and Daniel Kofi Agyei helped Juve Stabia to defeat Serie A side Sampdoria 4-3 on penalties after drawing 1-1 in regulation time.

Acosty lasted the entire duration of the match while Kofi Agyei came off the bench after 85 minutes.

Yussif Raman Chibsah was not involved in action for Sassuolo as they lost 1-0 at Catania.

Amidu Salifu also failed to make the Catania first team squad.

ENGLAND

Michael Essien continued to warm the Chelsea bench as they recorded a 2-0 win at Wigan in their opening Premier League match on Sunday.

In the Championship, German-born forward Jeffrey Schlupp watched from the bench as his Leicester City side won 2-0 against Peterborough United.

Prince Buaben Abankwah was left out of the Watford squad which won 3-2 at Crystal Palace.

English-born Kwesi Appiah sat on the Palace bench.

Striker Albert Adomah lasted the entire minutes for Bristol City who lost 1-0 at Nottingham Forest.

Jerry Vandam was excluded from the Lille 18-man squad which drew 1-1 with Nancy.

Defender John Boye played in central defence for Stade Rennes who suffered their second straight defeat at Bordeaux.

There was no place in the Rennes team for Kamal Issah Mohammed.

Olympique Marseille made it two wins out of two after posting a 2-0 win over Sochaux.

Winger Andre Ayew was replaced on the brink of full time while his younger brother Jordan Ayew was introduced on 83 minutes.

In the Ligue 2, Haminu Dramani was a 93rd minute substitute for Arles Avignon who defeated Angers 2-0 at the Parc des Sports.

Defender Nana Akwasi Asare was in sensational form for FC Utrecht who recorded their first win after beating VVV Venlo 3-1.

TURKEY

Youngster Tawrick Jibril failed to make the first team squad for Trabzonspor who drew 1-1 with Karabükspor.

PORTUGAL

FC Porto opened their campaign with a 0-0 draw with Gil Vicente. Christian Atsu came off the bench in the 71st minute to replace James Rodriguez.

In the second-tier, Alhassan Wakaso was an unused substitute for Portimonense who lost 2-1 at Trofense.

BELGIUM

Abdul Yakini Iddi lasted 23 minutes for KV Mechelen who suffered a 2-1 defeat at Lokeren.

Standard Liege demolished newly-promoted Sporting Charleroi 6-2 to move to fourth place.

Abraham Kudemor lasted 70 minutes for Charleroi while there was no Daniel Opare in the Liege team.

Lierse SK and Racing Genk shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Herman Vanderpoortenstadion.

Rahim Ayew warmed the Lierse bench while Bernard Yao Kumordzi was still out of the Genk first team squad.

UKRAINE

Dominic Adiyiah set up the opener for Arsenal Kiev who won 2-1 over Illichivets'. Youngster Abeiku Quansah was out with injury.

Defender Samuel Inkoom was axed from the FC Dnipro first team squad that played out a 0-0 Kryvbas.

Derek Boateng was excluded from the team because of fatigue.

SWEDEN

Striker Majeed Waris scored a double to help Hacken advance to the next stage of the Svenska Cupen after beating Akarps 3-0.

League leaders Elfsborg posted a 2-1 win over Helsingborg.

Kumasi-born defender Joseph Baffo played full throttle for Helsingborg while new signing David Accam came off the bench to play 12 minutes for Helsingborg.

USA

Gershon Koffie was booked on the 90th minute mark and played the full 90 minutes as his Vancouver Whitecaps lost 2-0 at Seattle Sounders.

Chicago Fire recorded a 2-1 win over New England Revolution at the Toyota Park.

Patrick Nyarko lasted 76 minutes for Fire while striker Dominic Oduro came off the bench after 71 minutes.

Defender Khalif Alhassan lost his place in the Portland Timbers first team as they lost 3-2 at New York Red Bulls.

DENMARK

Midfielder Enock Adu-Kofi played in a holding midfield role for Nordsjælland who managed a slim 1-0 win over AGF.

Former St. Pauli defender Davidson Drobo-Ampem lost his place in the Esbjerg first team squad as they drew 0-0 with Horsens.

NORWAY

IK Start suffered just their second defeat of the season after losing 4-3 to Sarpsborg. Winger Ernest Asante played the full match for IK Start.
