French-born Ghanaian defender Dennis Appiah enjoyed a disappointing evening at the MMArena as he got sent off for a challenge on Divock Origi and the Belgian claimed the match-winner from the resultant spot-kick.

The young defender, 22, was only playing his second Ligue 1 game after joining Caen permanently from giants AS Monaco following a successful loan spell last season but got disappointed at the end.

Appiah enjoyed a memorable debut last weekend as he played full throttle for Caen in their season opening 3-0 victory Evian TG.

Caen manager Patrice Garande, who was impressed by the defender on his debut last weekend, kept faith in him and fielded him in his starting line-up and he sturdily defended until a ugly moment in the 67th minute when a soft challenge was adjudged a penalty.

Though replay showed no open contact between Appiah and Origi, Sébastien Desiage - the referee, awarded a foul against Appiah and matched him off.
