Ghanaian Patrick Nyarko fumes over first defeat of the season

Ghanaian midfielder Patrick Nyarko has attributed Chicago Fire’s first defeat of the season against Colorado Rapids to indiscipline.

Fire lost 2-0 in the Major League Soccer on Sunday with Omar Cummings opening the scoring in the 58^th minute for Colorado Rapids before Kamani Hill sealed their fate in the second minute of injury time.

Chicago paraded two Ghanaian players in Dominic Oduro, who broke through the Colorado defense on a pass from Marco Pappa in the 38^th minute, only to have his shot saved by goalkeeper Matt Pickens.

Nyarko who also featured prominently in the game believe his team-mates were not disciplined on the pitch enough.

“We just needed to be smart and not waste our energy in the first minutes,” Nyarko said.

“We did that well in the first half, and in the second half we went away from it and they punished us.”

When Chicago lost discipline, the players lost track of each other.

“We drifted from the game plan a little bit,”

“ “[Normally] we know where each other are supposed to be.

But the 26-year-old is confident that this team is different from last year’s group and simply need to stay the course.

“It’s just one game,” he said. “You look around the game, and Colorado is one of the toughest places to play in the league. We’re not going to go kill ourselves over this.”

Nyarko earned a shock Ghana debut during the Black Stars international friendly against Chile last month.
