Ghanaian fans condemn CAF over Zambia captain Katongo's exclusion from Player of the Year shortlist

Posted On Saturday, 24th November 2012
Ghanaian fans have condemned CAF's five-man shortlist for the 2012 African Footballer of the Year over the exclusion of Zambia captain Chris Katongo.

Katongo led Zambia to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title

Ghanaian fans have condemned CAF’s five-man shortlist for the 2012 African Footballer of the Year over the exclusion of Zambia captain Chris Katongo.

Katongo, who led less-fancied Zambia to win the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations title in January, was left out of the five-man shortlist led by Didier Drogba.

The China-based Chipolopolo captain’s exclusion led to discussion by almost all the radio stations in Accra on Saturday with all bemoaning the exclusion of the most valuable player of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Drogba, now at Shanghai Shenhua in China, and compatriot Yaya Toure, of English champions Manchester City, join Senegal’s Demba Ba, of Newcastle United, Marseille’s Ghana forward Andre Ayew and Cameroon’s Alexandre Song, of Barcelona on the list.

The inclusion of Ba and Song coupled with the exclusion of Katongo which has sparked anger among Black Stars fans.

Despite leading Zambia to back to back victories over Ghana this year, Ghanaian fans called into several radio stations on Saturday to slam the decision by CAF.

“This (Katongo’s exlcusion) is very very shameful. I feel horrified by the decision by CAF and the leaders including Hayatou should bow their heads down in shame,” ace commentator Kwabena Yeboah told Joy FM.

“It is criminal to exclude Katongo from the CAF five-man shortlist. He stood very tall this year and to exclude him shows CAF has completely gone bonkers,” a fan Kwame Appeadu told Peace FM.

Another football fan said: “The exclusion of Katongo shows that CAF is totally ignorant of the game it runs. Katongo has done more than any African player in Africa this year.”

Sam Amoah added: “Hayatou and his folks are out here to deny a genuine contender for the award. They should now tell us that its no good playing at the AFCON.”

While others concentrated on Katongo, many others slammed the inclusion on Ba and Song claiming CAF’s bias towards Francophone played a role in their inclusion.

Senegal bombed out of the Africa Cup of Nations at the first round while Song’s Cameroon failed to qualify and both of them won no titles at club level.

“Ba and Song did nothing for their countries and clubs to deserve a place in the African best shortlist. This is a sick joke from CAF,” Issaka Amadu told another radio station.

Katongo has steadily risen to stardom over the last 10 years, having made his name at Green Buffaloes between 2003 and 2004, and culminating with the 2012 AfCON trophy last February.

One of his lesser known feats at Buffaloes saw him score four goals in one game at the 2003 and 2004 editions of the Confederation Cup in 5-0 and 6-1 wins over Saint Michel of the Seychelles and DR Congo side DC Motema Pembe respectively.

However, unlike most of his Zambia teammates who rose from Under-17 and 20 levels, Katongo was a late bloomer and his path to Chipolopolo stardom began at Under-23 level.

He was part of the 2003 All-Africa Games team that finished fourth in Abuja, scoring just one goal at the tournament and another in the qualifiers.

Katongo made his Africa Cup debut in Egypt in 2006 where Zambia exited at the group stages, but not before scoring in Chipolopolo’s 1-0 win over South Africa.

A year later, he famously scored a hat-trick against South Africa in a 3-1 win in Cape Town to help Zambia secure qualification to the 2008 Nations Cup.

His club career has taken him from Jomo Cosmos in South Africa where he played from 2004 to 2007 and was top scorer of the year months after he had left the Premier Soccer League side.

His first stop in Europe was at Brondby in Denmark in 2007 and later transferred to German side Arminia Bielefeld in 2008.

In 2010, Katongo left Germany for Greece where he spent a year at Skoda Xanthi and later moved to China in 2011 to sign with current club Henan Construction.

  1. Ghanaman says:

Are these Ghanaians stupid? Are these not the same Zambians who invited us to their building to Cheat. Let them fight their own fight! They are criminals and either way Katongo is an average footballer!!

Katongo sent his team to the Chinese 2nd division and only played well at the African cup! Is he really one of the best 5 footballers in Africa? No!

    • kantoose says:

why are we reading years of katongos exploits when the Award is for the year 2012?
Maybe he was in the wrong category for the award.

    • Archie says:

Which one is better to play well in your own continent or foreign land? Katongo did well at the AFCON rightly said what about Ba and Song? Why are they on the last 5??

    • Charl Katul says:

He may not the the best individual player but his leadership skills does not compare to any of the guys on the shortlist. By excluding Katongo from the shortlist, it goes to show that AFCON is just some stupid competition. For heaven’s sake what good did Demba BA?

  2. texas says:

Even Drogba and Yaya Toure should not hsve been listed.

  3. @9geria says:

Even us Nigerians are shocked about this idiocity by CAF. How can you include Demba Ba and Alex Song leaving out the inspirational Zambian captain Chris Katongo from the list? These two players never won anything for Africa to recognise them. Please CAF, rescind your decision and accomodate Southern African players. This is not good at all and it will kill the importance of AFCON competition.
Issa Hayatou must resign with immediate effect bcos he has stolen in day light Southern African pride. Shame on you Hayatou, just bcos Song is from your country and you include him.
We shall still vote for Katongo in absentia (Protest).

    • Ghanaman says:

The award is based on more than 6 games.

Footballers play over 45 games a year..

Katongo is not even one of the leading goal scorers in China! Your compatriot Peter Utaka is!!!

      • @9geria says:

We are talking of African achievement, Ghanaman and not Chinese achievement here. If you are talking of foreign achievements here, then Chinese people would have taken over Africa and most of the African countries would have been ruled by china.

        • Ghanaman says:

That is why there are awards after the African cup of nations… Katongo won those! This award is not for top African cup of nations performer but, bet African footballer.

          • kantoose says:

those arguing for katongo are misinformed. even if katingo had 5star rating for Afcon performance. he will get lower marks for the other areas because he plays in chinese 2nd division where he is not even performing.

  4. @9geria says:

In China, even you Ghanaman though you play golf, you can be scoring goals either sides.

  5. A concerned citizen says:

Ghanasoccernet, that is your perception and it is not all Ghanaian fans

  6. algorithm says:

    lol
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. selfmade says:

If there is one player that deserves this award,it should be katongo!! Sometimes is so sad the way we treat ourselves as Africans!! What’s the essence of the afcon then because if a player performs at afcon but doesn’t performed in his club,he cannot become African best right!! This is a guy who lead unknown Zambia to win the afcon defeating the likes of football giants like Ghana and ivory coast and provided such a rare inspiration and leadership qualities to his mates and capping it off with the mvp award,is not considered among the top five players in africa!! This is ridiculous and asmuch as i hate zambians for their bloated ego because of this afcon title,i think it ll have being only fair to include this dude in the five shortlisted players to give some dignity and credibility to the afcon championship!!! Is about time caf start to give respect to African players who perform in the afcon!!! Viva the revolutionciooooooo!!

  8. Ghanaman says:

A 30 year old footballer who was a flop at Brondsby in Denmark, a flop at Arminia Bielefeld in Greece, A flop and Skoda Xanthi in greece, and now a flop at Henan Construction in China! You want this flop to be the African player of the year who can stand next to Messi and Ronaldo the best in their regions?

Have some respect for yourself and understand that he is NOT the bet player in Africa not even in the top 100!

    • Carbonite says:

wtf! how old is Drogba and even Yaya Toure!!!!? what has he bn 30 got to do with this? think dude!

      • Ghanaman says:

He is 30 and never was a big player in his career! Yaya Toure and Drogba have played and succeded in BIG clubs and Leagues in Europe!

        • Ghana Slaughters says:

Dull Ghanaman. If all people in Ghana were to be multiplied by you, what a dull nation we are going to have. Yaya and Drogba have made names in Europe but have never lifted the AFCON trophy and they will retire without. This year its for Zambia Again or our brothers, our only West African brothers, Nigeria.

          • @9geria says:

Good point my friend @Ghana Slaughters. 2013 will be for Nigeria or Zambia again. Drogba and Yaya Toure including the likes of Asamoahs, Dedes, will never touch the AFCON Trophy. They will just be misfiring at the last minute.

          • Ghanaman says:

2 stupid Nigerians or a Dumb Zambian and a Dumb Nigeria. You will never be a big team!!!

    • Zedian says:

The hate for fellow Africans esp the South African soccer players by Ghanaman is the reason why we do not develop as a continent. This dude sounds like he’s a siamese twin of hayatou whose been at the helm of CAF since i was born.

Katongo deserves to be on the top 5 list whether some reason with their belly or region.

    • Proud Zambia says:

you seem so bitter Mr Man.thats y ur country wont win it even this time around, u will just continue miss firing penalties.

  9. Mochacho-USA says:

Wtf you guys talkingg abt,am a Ghanaian I dnt care if he is included or not. Apart from AFCON 2012, who have seen seen him play again? Why ,cos he play in stupid China league. Am also of the view that Drouba shd be taken out too,but no so quick, hw won champion league which is better AFCON anyway,am sorry

  10. payne says:

hahahaha GSN,u people are funny, we all noe u wrote this post just to laugh at the poor Zambian. Bt seriously did he himself think he could win this? i think he was even surprised he made the 30 man shortlist but i give the credit of that to his performance at the AFCON….. but apart from dat katango doesn’t deserve anything

  11. Sergeant says:

I careless whether Chris wins it or not.At least Katongo should have been included in the last 5.

  12. Nana Owusu says:

What?? he performed well in AFCON so he should be African best right?? So, does FIFA choose world best bcos he performed well at the world cup?? haha!! bunch of jokers^^ We are talking about players who can rise the Frag of Africa high in the wold(African ambassador). Now if Katongo is African best, where can we find him?? China division 2?? African ambassador being a slave in China ??All that he can get is to win the best player of the tournament and nothing else. I bet u, this old man can not even play in Ghana league to win any award lol!! Was, Diego fulham 2010 wold best?? haha!!

    • Africanus says:

No, he should not be African best, certainly not by any stretch of the imagination. But I think he deserve to be in the five-man short list.

      • @9geria says:

Ghanaians have already started misfiring at the last minute and hence 2013 AFCON will elude them again. The issue here, is about the top 5 and the best in Africa. Nowander Ghanaians loose at the last minute bcos they don’t understand issues or rules of the game. Demba Ba and Alex Song, what have they done for Africa to be recognised in 2012? Nothing!!! Drogba and Yaya Toure reached AFCON finals, Dede Ayew AFCON semi finals and Chris Katongo beat all these three and you are leaving such a player? SHAME ON YOU OPPOSERS AND CAF. Katongo managed even to win the game by 3-0 against Sudan in the boardroom which he lost 2-0 on the field of play. He managed to concur South Africa at they homeground by grabbing Nelson Mandela shield. All these are African achievements. Even Herve Renard will crown African Coach of the Year for 2012. Rainford Kalaba or Stophila Nsunzu African based player of the year for 2012.
Haaaaa, i know why Hayatou left out delibarately Chris Katongo, bcos all the awards would have gone to the Zambians!!!

    • Mike says:

You are bitter and jealous of Zmabia

  13. Africanus says:

Nobody is saying he should be voted the winner. We are talking about a five-man short list, of which at least two of the contenders are suspect. Being short list does not make one the winner.

  14. Ghanaman says:

I have to say I am not inspired by a 30 year old average player calling himself Captain Katongo and playing for a team called the copper bullets! Sounds like something a young teenager would do!

    • Edmond says:

But why didnt your young teenages do it in AFCON 2012? An average player helps his team lift the AFCON which high class players who score evry game fail to do anything relevant to their own countries?
This is a Shame to such high class players who only make whites smile and their own countrymen cry.
They are non-performers.What great things have they done for their own country besides missing penalties when it matters the most?
They perform highly in white-countries due to love of money hence allow themselves to do anything even if it means denouncing their own African countries.
If they died today, what would you say of the many CUPs brought to your country.I know the foreign countries would appreciate for helping them make money, but what about you guys…Those high class players only recognise White nations not you.Forget with Shame.

      • Proud Zambian says:

Edmond you are right, what has Ghana got to show except being a power house on paper who were humbled by the average player on the field at the Afcon and again in the World cup qualifeir not too long ago.

Ghanaman tell us ur country’s acheivements apart from being almost at everything…….

  15. zed 635 says:

IT shows afcon has no meaning,,,if they cant recognise there own,,,then wat is this?C.Katongo desreves this award than any other player,,he showed patriotism and pride to play and guide his team to first ever afcon,,,beating the so called favourites,,,remember that chinease league is not as coverd as english premiure league,la liga or french league,,,demba ba and song dont deserve this nomination,,caf is a joke,,hayatou must resighn or resind this utter nocence desicion,,other wise they are killing afcon pride,,,because players will feel less apreciated by there own mother body….SHAME…SHAME…SHAME…DISAPOINTED FAN. his

  16. Obbie says:

Just asking, How many goels did Song score? can someone tell me what song and ba achieve to deserve that short list. As a Zambian i feel good to learn that soccer fans in Ghana, Nigeria, east Africa are not happy that Katongo has been removed by CAF from the list. genuine fans not these short sighted ones on this site. Katongo is the true African footballer of the year in 2012.

  17. Great says:

Africa footballer of de yr award is not given base on only de performance in afcon but also de club de player plays n his contributions to de club’s success r all considered b4 one is nominated. Now do u think a china div 2 player shd be in de best 5 in africa?

    • Edmond says:

But how come the china division 2 player become the best player of the tournament in 2012 AFCON when big boys are around. How come this china division 2 player leads the team comprising players from in very low division, lift the AFCON which your big players have always lost.
You are proud of players who do nothing for the local nations

  18. Eddy says:

This is Africa and everything should be done within Africa not the order pls CAF this is African best player not world best note better he deserve to be shortlisted among those Chinese players.

    • Edmond says:

Do you know why Ronaldo is heavily criticised in Portugal despite being a so called world class player. He losses any tactics in Portugal which he applies in Spain.
Do you know why soccer analysts tell Ronaldo and Messi to prove in their home countries that they were world players of the year by winning some cups for their nations.

  19. junior mafia says:

    Katongo is overrated

  20. Dready says:

Katongo. What kind of name is that and player is that?

  21. The truth says:

As much as I hate zambians, you can’t deny thr fact that Katongo, clottey, kwadwo Asamoah and drogba should be the only players caf should consider. Secondly Katongo is the best out of these individuals this year and thus deserves the award. Caf is a joke

  22. kwame pito says:

I am not happy at all with Katingo’s snubbing. infact I was expecting Katingo to win Africa best. I mean what is CAF thinking? Look at the way the guy played at Afcon. wow.

  23. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

SONG N DEMBA BA SHOULD HVE BEEN EXCLUDED IN FAVOR OF KATONGO. IF IT WASNT FOR HIM, ZAMBIA WOULDNT HVE WON THE AFCON TROPHY

  24. theprince says:

Even though song and ba dont deserve to be in the list and i dont think giving the award to katongo is a good idea, bcose africa player of the year cannot play for division 2 in china sorry.

    • Africanus says:

We are not rooting for Katongo to win the African players of the year, but he deserve to be among the best five. He is certainly not my pick for the award. I think Drobga deserve it more than any other.

  25. kimco says:

well ain’t this a bitch, not even in the shortlist, demba ba and alex song? rly caf? Ghanaman, u’re a sad sad sad man and i hope u get some happiness in ur life. Thank u

  26. Laston says:

The fact that Katongo was actually top scorer for Henan who ended up relegated means that even though he doesn’t play for a top side he stands above the rest. He led underdogs Zambia to the Afcon trophy. His single goal downed the Ghanaians in the World Cup Qualifier. He scored a crucial goal for Zambia against Uganda. At international level, there is no African who has been making more enormous contributions to the progress of his national team than Katongo. I think he actually deserves the award. He is a role model. He symbolises a rare fighting spirit.

    • Yebo says:

This is the true Pana-Africanism comment. I like this comment. It is better to put-in all your best at AFCON for your country than a foreign club indeed. This is the missing link in the CAF leadership.

  27. Papa says:

A player can still get recognition despite playing for a club that was relegated. Scot Parker got the Award of Player of the year in the English premier league despite West Ham being relegated. There’s nothing wrong with Chris Katongo winning the award playing for a relegated club. Scot Parker played well for England and got the award. Why shouldn’t Katongo get it as he won the Africa Cup?

  28. ngo says:

Katongo is hard working to have scored those goals. Mind u, he is a midfielder and not a striker. How many African midfieders have scored as many goals as him? All we are saying is that he deserves to be in the top five ahead of Ba and Song.Especially song, he shouldnt have been on top 5 for me ahead of Katongo. Thats the BBC list makes abit of some sense and I will vote for Katongo on the BBC player of the year.

  29. NickThaRuler says:

LMAO!!! Ghanaman is one angry and bitter Ghanaian… Get over yourself my guy.. Katongo and his team have beaten your team twice back to back.. we get it… but the point is, the guy still derserved to be in the TOP 5.. whether Drogba wins it or not!!!

  30. Chips says:

(1)Do I think Katongo deserved to emerge as player of the year for 2012? NO.
(2)Do I think Katongo deserved to be among the top 5? Yes. here is my reasoning
    (a) he was the best footballer at the afcon and giving him a place among the top five would have given an ingredient of leverage to the africa’s supreme soccer platform afcon.
    (b) His performances on the field and his impeccable leadership for an average zambian team proved critical and an aspect that led the southern african country to defy the odds.
    (c) It is important for caf to start giving an incentive for maximum performance at the afcon given the widespread conception that european based african players usually reserve their best performances for their clubs and this takes away from the quality of the afcon.
Overall, Hayatou is need a straight thinking leader and caf needs new leadership in the likes of Kalusha Bwalya and Danny Jordan

  31. Rod says:

Ghanaman is very dull, bitter and jealous of Zambia. Let me tell you, Zambia will keep on hammering Ghana until you ghanaman die of heartattack. @9geria and Ghana slaughter you are wisemen, i salute you for educating that dull ghanaman.

  32. Zambian Guy says:

I am equally disappointed with CAF’s exclusion of Christopher Katongo. It is not everyone who is fortunate enough to play for a Club with better players to co-ordinate with. The same applies to Chris. We shouldnt blame Chris for his team’s relegation.Christ is a midfielder of which you should not blame for having scored less goals. He is a team player and individually bright.Respect CAF’s decisions although we are not happy. We now look to BBC African Footballer Awards.

  33. Edmond says:

You know, even these guys shortlisted should be ashamed that they have brought nothing to their nations.Demba Ba to ashamed for doing nothing for Senegal.Drogba is a good player, but he shud be ashamed for winning nothing for Ivory Coast.

They must be ashamed that the Player from a chinese division 2 side,Katongo became the player of the tournament 2012 Afcon and later lifted the cup. They must be ashamed since Katongo has been an icon for his country all the time especially in very critical times.
Your players only shine in Europe and when you need then critically, they disappoint you by missing penalties when badly needed

  34. Ghanaman says:

Honestly i’m just bitter becos Zambia keeps beating my beloved BS.

  35. chipolopolo lady Dee says:

Hmmm ghanaman’s one bitter fan. Atleast Warrant Officer Katongo has won the Afcon. Wish I could say the same for your compatriots. Infact none of your current crop of black stars will even smell it. The earlier you learn to deal with this the better or watch my Chipolopolo wallop your black stars again and die of heart attack.

  36. champion says:

Are we Africans proud of ourselves or not? The only time Africans are mentioned in the western media is when poverty, corruption, war and division are under discussion- and we know there is far much better to African than that nonsense we are depicted to be!!! Lets face it, even if Zambia has been a lousy team, atleast katongo deserves to be short listed, better yet win the award. He contributed greatly to Zambia’s afcon success and has helped his country at those critical points. at this point, my focus is on BBC’s shortlist. shame on you caf… you have no substance…

  37. chipolopolo lady Dee says:

Ghanians still bitter about their team’s back to back losses to chipolopolo. Get over it already guys or watch Warrant Officer Katongo and his charges wallop your black stars right in your back yard in the WCQ. Y’all gonna die of heart attack I can assure you. Atleast Chris has won the Afcon, Dede, Gyan and the rest of your current crop of black stars will never win it let alone smell it..

  38. ZED 365 says:

Ghanaman….if we had 50% of minds like you i wonder if we were able to colonise ourselfs up to now,,,wat matters to you the most,,,a player who perfomes at afcon and unites a country through football,,,or a player that perfomes well in eaurope gets thousand pounds under his pocket and performs below par for country,,,demba ba and song are such examples,,,as africanss were are we going,,,we have to unite and not devide because zambia won afcon,,,football is not played via media or paper but its wat happens within 90+added minutes,,,edmond i totaaly agree with you,,,

  39. ZED 365 says:

    CAF ERRORED ON THIS ONE,,,

  40. ZED 365 says:

GHANAMAM,,,C,KATONGO IS A MIDFEILDER WHO CAME OUT 3 WITH GOALS AT AFCON AND HAS BEEN SCORING FOR HIS CLUB IN CHINA,,,HOW MANY OF YOUR GHANA PLAYERS RATHER STRIKERS MANAGED THIS FEAT AT ACFON?BUT THRE YOU GO IDOLISE DEMBA BA AND SONG,,INSULTING C.KATONGO,,HE MAY NOT BE THE BEST PLAYER IN AFRICA BUT A SHORTLIST AMONG THE BEST 5 WOULD HAVE SHOWN HOW CAF APRECIATES THERE OWN,,SHAME ON YOU GHANAMAN,,,REALLY SAD THAT THAT YOU CANT APRECIATE YOUR OWN TOURNAMENT,,,,

  41. Christopher Katongo says:

I have let this one slide and just want to concentrate on helping my country defend the Afcon cup in South Africa next year.No hard feelings !!

  42. Jude Moraes says:

    1. Katongo does not play in the 2nd division, he plays in the Premier league in China, his team got relegated and he is not going down with them he is leaving.
    2. Katongo is a Mid fielder and not a forward
    3. Katongo was the voted best player of the AFCON and has continued to be a pillar in the African Champions team. He has contributed more to African football in 2012 than any of those on that short list.
    4. FIFA has been known to award players World footballer of the year on the basis of the world cup, Ronaldo in 2002 (Just came from and injury and has a relatively quiet 2002 won the award), Canavaro did nothing but captain the winning team. This has demonstrated how important the World cup is.

That said, CAF is making a statement, that the AFCON means very little to African football, what is more important is exploits in European leagues.

    • Ghanaman says:

The Chinese league is garbage! 1st and 2nd division! The FAT headed 38 year old flopped all over Europe for 10 years before finally settling in China! Then, he sent his team into relegation!

      • zambian says:

but he led his country to victory in africa, you bitter ghanaman!zambia will keep on hammering the so called black stars.

      • Jude Moraes says:

Ghanaman very true the Chinese league is not much to talk about, but people go there for the money, kinda like how Assamoah Gyan moved to Qatar at “26″. Katongo was a success in the South African PSL coming out top goal scorer before moving to Europe were he spent only 3 seasons.

        • Dora's Left Bum says:

Yes Their savior Gyan fled the premier league and opted to go to Al Ain, a very questionable move. Is he really 26?

          • the lady says:

But Ghanaman Zambia has really made you swallow sour grapes….Continue sulking Chris is an ICON and he is making his money in China so is Drogba. You and l are just fans but our friends are making their ends meet the bigger way.

          • Ghanaman says:

Lady, Chris should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Drogba. Drogba won the Champions league, FA Cup,and is acknowledged by football fans around the world as one of the best in his Era. He may not be great anymore but, in his day he was among the best in the world.

  43. Jude Moraes says:

It is no wonder CAF attaches a mere 1 million USD or so for winning the AFCON, it is no wonder the tournament year after year see’s very poor attendances because CAF wants us to pay more attention to European games.

    • Ghanaman says:

Well if the refs paid attention to European leagues they would get the calls right and small teams of criminals including 38 year old captain Katongo a fat head would win less!!

      • Jude Moraes says:

Ghanaman I will try and ignore you you have made it very clear that you are bitter at Zambia constantly whooping the BS. But just out of interest give one example were Zambia were favoured by refs and or were we cheated?

        • Ghanaman says:

Did you watch the game in Zambia were your whole president announced win at ALL COST! What cost was that? Buying the ref, Tunisian Med Kordi, A CRIMINAL DOG!!! :)!!

If the ref was half way decent we would have whipped you!!

  44. chipolopolo lady Dee says:

    Spot on Jude.

  45. Ghanaman says:

With the standard of refereeing including the CORRUPT DOGS who stole 2 games for 38 year Old Captain Katongo(A FORWARD in the CHINESE 2nd division_) and a DOG of course the prize money will be small… It should be ZERO!

    ZAMBIA OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am glad CAF has put this small team of CHEATS in their place!!

    • Zedian says:

You are bitter man. you’ve lost all capacity to reason with your butterness

    • zambian says:

and who are u calling a Dog?

why are u so bitter?and how did we cheat?

    • zambian says:

      Iyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee CHIPOLOPOLO
      Iyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee CHIPOLOPOLO
      Iyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee CHIPOLOPOLO
      Iyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee CHIPOLOPOLO

South Africa 2013.we will show you tht it wasnt a fluke.

    • Baba says:

The beauty about the internet.. Who are you calling CHEATS you should be carefully with the statements you make we are a peaceful nation and we would never talk like that about any country. Just make your points period,i know it hurts that a team with 75% of locally based players beat you not once but twice but that is something you should be looking at yourselves. We learnt from Egypt and we adopted it. remember this is about Africa, you tell me how many European based players come to the mother and perform for their country they are all concerned of injuries and never play their hearts out for their countries like they do for their clubs. Much as we dont like it but this award should be about who performs on the Continent coz its about us to bad its not based on that. Hard luck Katongo but thanks for making us proud and lifting the trophy. By the way he calls himself Captain coz his an Army Officer (FYI). God Bless

    • the lady says:

ghanaman this hatred for Chris eats you up for real you even go to the extent of calling him a dog, this post has now revealed who trully you are A DOOOOOOOOOOOOG.

    • Edmond says:

Ghana is no longer black stars but black scars or black magicians since they believe in magic but they still fail to do anything.

      BLACK SCARS OR BLACK SKULLS

  46. king fisher says:

    where is my comment

  47. zambian says:

wht has song achived this year apart from moving to Barcalona? He didnt even feature at the Africa cup and he wont be there even next year.

Just because Ba was top Scorer at Newcastle it dosn`t make him Africa`s best.
    did he score any goals?????????????

  48. CHIPOpolopolo says:

Let them win the European footballer of the year if they are that good. George Weah did, let Song or Ba do it as well. Katongo don’t worry we are blacks owez wanting and recognizing European achievements. Inferiority complex owez. That’s why China has shown Europe and America that they can be better too. No hard feelings, we will meet in RSA!!!!

  49. Dora's Left Bum says:

Ghanaman only has his inflated ego to show for with Ghana not doing anything of note. Yes we cheered you at 2 world cups but you came back having shown no spine and endurance which typifies the Ghana National team. All huff and puff with no results to show.

We are not surprised that Katongo is not on the list because you only have to seen how many Southern Africans have actually won it? And if you remember the sham that saw Adebayor lose the award to Freddie Kanoute? The fact that Ghanaman glorifies this mediocrity from CAF just shows the kind of people that our beloved(wives) Ghanians have to offer.

  50. Zam Bola says:

this thing called Ghanaman is a soccer fan without understanding and knowledge of soccer, what does he know about African footballer of the year not foreign based player of the year, ba did nothing for senegal drogba failed to redeem his country at afcon, song not even to mention his team did not qualify for afcon2012, yet ganaman still dwells on his ignorance and arrogance of justifying that katongo should be left out, hayatou and CAf are skimmers they are still hurt by the katongo led squad having whooped there boots

  51. Chipolopo's #1 fan says:

Ghana thankx for backing my boy..Katongo is a winner in our eyes he made even more proud to be Zambian’s….we dont need the caf

  52. Chipolopo's #1 fan says:

  53. Bambo says:

Zambia wil beat Ghana again at Africa cup.You will even be more bitter ba swine, idiots

  54. proud african says:

as an african am dissapointed with some the comments am seeing from some of my africans brothers like ghanaman and others despite our countries having different names we are one if we see sumtin is wrong lets say it is wrong nt trying to justfy sumtin coz of bitterness i am a zambian and i have much love for all africans i thank all my brothers who have shown support for chris katongo

    • the lady says:

thank God you are not Zambians because your thinking levels are too low man, you have a political cadre mentality who thinks that only by insulting will s/he put his or her point across. BE OBJECTIVE MAN AND SWALLOW THE SOUR GRAPES. HISTORY HAS BEEN WRITTEN, ZAMBIA IS THE 2012 AFCON CHAMPION. Your turn is MAYBE next year. Why should you insult Zambians because of Chris? he has gone down in History and you will continue crying man.

  57. Ghanaman says:

Captain Katongo, a 42 year old player in the Chinese 2nd division. A 42 year old doing back flips as if he is a teenager!!!! Grow up captain Katongo! You are too old to be doing that!! He is not among Africa’s 100 best players let alone top 5!!!

  58. Aspen says:

Ghanaians who are still bitter about their losses should grow up. In football, lyk any other game teams lose. When you lose twice accept it and move on-you’re just not good enough.Pride makes you keep grudges and i’m sure that’s why you fall as a nation.Whether or not Katongo was shortlisted, atleast small fish like Ghanaman can talk about him.People only talk about achievers anyway.Keep talking and you’ll take your bitterness to the grave-no one will ever know you.Atleast He plays in china, what about you? Some dogs bark, others bite, which one are you? Real people recognize each other and right now your childishness is unfamiliar to us.Zambia has improved, lets just accept it as a nation and support them.Ghana for Katongo!

  59. the lady says:

  61. Kubusu says:

Pipo like ghanaman suffer frm diseases which unfortunately even doctors cannot cure, @ ghanaman, its shoking to see pipo like u in ths time and age who still suffer frm such syndromes as inferiority complex!! U must be frm post colonialism, ur reasoning and thinking resembles that of a slave. Be proud of ur continent, if u can channel that enery u put into ur research to african football.. Wake up frm tht slumber man! haven’t u taken time to learn anythng frm great men like the great kwameh nkrumah ‘may his soul rest in peace’, nelson mandela, kenneth david kaunda and all our forefathers? Quit this muzungu anikonde attitude man!!’literally treating white pipo wth favoritsm over ur fellow blacks! Tell u sumthng, africa’n football has the potential to reach to the level where european football is today, we’ve got everythng in africa my boy!! If only pipo like u and hayatou can be cured frm thiz diseases u suffer frm….. Mental slavery, ur minds are still in bondage and only u can emancipate urselves.

  62. Ghanaman says:

I apologize to whoever I offended. Lady forgive me please!!

  63. Baba says:

You are just an ass Ghanaman, how can you not applaud a 2nd division Chinese based player in a team with 75% locally based players and not only take them to the final but win it against your so called greatest players in African. Dude wake the F#@k up stanyoko….

  64. PA ZED says:

ghanaman arent u ashamed you are the only african thats a hater .broman u got so much hate.i can feel ur pain.u r such a loser….
