Ghanaian international John Paintsil has settled well at Maritzburg United, and is eyeing another three points from tomorrow’s League clash against Mpumalanga Black Aces at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Having joined Maritzburg from National First Division outfit Santos before the start of the season, the former West Ham United and Fulham man has been used as a centre-back by coach Steve Komphela so far this campaign.

He is likely to line-up alongside Kwanda Mngonyama on Saturday given Mohammed Awal’s involvement with the Ghanaian national side in mid-week.

Maritzburg also have injured duo Thokozani Sekotlong (groin) and Deolin Mekoa (knee) unavailable. Kick-off on Saturday is at 15h00.

“I’m really enjoying my football. This is a very special team with a lot of quality and a professional coach,” says Paintsil.

“It has been great to work with them and we are eyeing three points from Saturday to keep our position near the top of the table.”

Komphela, meanwhile, was happy with his side’s preparations, but has been around long enough to know that the Clive Barker factor is one to watch out for.

“Before you look at the club you have to look at the coach. Clive Barker will bring his players with a lot of energy and confidence,” says Komphela.

“He will make them believe that they are the best thing to happen since sliced bread – that they are the Maradona’s and the Messi’s of South African football. It’s not going to be easy.”
